And with a less than stellar running game, currently sitting at 104, a non mobile QB doesn't help. I agree anything other than running into the B gap without a lead blocker and getting a whopping 3.6 yards per carry would be a HUGE improvement. Yes they are good friends. Dana was Kingsbury's mentor and they go way back. Holgo is from the Mike Leach coaching tree. He was Texas Tech's Inside-WR coach when Kingsbury was playing QB for 3 years. Kliff went to the NFL, Dana eventually took over as the OC for Leach and they had some of the best offenses in the country with Dana (#2 total offense, #7 scoring offense, 42 ppg, for example). Holgorson was at Texas Tech for 8 years.
So what are the chances we replace current offensive staff with a whole new staff - DHol as OC, Mooris as WR coach Kingsbury as QB coach or some other arrangement?? Wishful thinking I know. Holgorson then went to Houston as the OC for 2 years. In his 2nd season, they finished the #3 offense in the country, and avg 42 ppg.
When Kingsbury's NFL career ended, Holgorson reached out Kliff and got him a job with Houston. They even lived together briefly while working together. Kingsbury said if it wasn't for Holgorson, he never would have been a coach.
Holgorson then went to Oklahoma State for one year. And Kingsbury took over OC at Houston, then went to Texas A&M as OC.
Holgorson and Kingsbury both state they share the same philosophy - "Up-tempo, high-energy, and only care about scoring points".
As Oklahoma State's OC for one year, Dana's offense was also incredible. Scoring 45 ppg, a Doak Walker finalist (RB rushing for over 1500 yards), a WR that won the Biletnikoff Award, and QB that was Manning finalist.
After that, Holgorson was named the HC at West Virginia and did quite well as we know. He then finally ended up back in Houston but as the HC for a few years. When he was let go, he was owed $14.8 mil for buyout.
Mahomes' OC at Texas Tech was Eric Morris, who is now the HC at UNT (North Texas).
Morris has turned the North Texas program around and was a WR at Texas Tech when Holgorson was there as Offensive Coordinator.
A few weeks ago against Memphis - Morris was asked a question at half time, and his short answer was "all I care about is scoring points".
Just like Holgorson and Kingsbury - a philosophy that is "up-tempo, high-energy, and only care about scoring points".
So it will be interesting to see how Holgorson does with Nebraska and how involved he will be. His track record as an OC speaks volumes.

Great stats. Unsure how theabove meet with each year below. 1st ranking is conference and 2nd is the national rank. We are currently 104th to date at 124 yards/game. Last year with really only a running game we were 34th at 176/game. He was only lower than our yardage 3 times, but was ranked higher in all but one year. That year they had Graham Harrell.....9-4 (4-4 conference) was his worst rushing ranking. I can see why they went all "air raid". Your forgetting the most important part is Dana is a consultant and not the main guy in charge doesn't really change anything other then being another voice.
