Here too. It really just 2 that I know of.  But they are the only folks bringing it up in large group convos and are big time  MAGA that just assumes everyone else is too, because why wouldn’t we be?  We live in Nebraska.

I have often wondered if proximity is the main reason people do this. I can't tell you the number of times people here in Nebraska have engaged me in political conversations as if I'm MAGA right alongside them. Part of me would get it if I lived out west but I live in Omaha, the most liberal part of the entire state. I mean half my neighborhood had blue dots in the yard. I'm a moderate and I make no bones about the fact that I tend to vote pretty 50/50 on candidates.

Perhaps part of it too is the cultural movement of MAGA. I've never really see something I can compare it to on the Democratic side. For all the faults I could assign to liberals in this country, of which there are many, the cult-like tendencies some on the right show towards Trump has always been uncomfortable. I don't know if the MAGA can help themselves in that regard... it's like they're bursting at the seems to find more and talk to one another about how great they believe Trump to be.

I wish I could IRL share memes to people because I'd give them the MJ "Stop it, get some help"

Absolutely.  A couple years ago when Nebraska made it easier to carry a concealed weapon one of our SPEd teachers was all excited because she was going to go get a new handgun to carry.  When she asked me and a coworker (both males aged 40 and 52 at the time) at coffee if we had one yet, she was shocked when we both laughed and said we don’t ever plan on carrying a concealed weapon.

She is a huge Trump fan.  Like coffee mug at school, bumper sticker, the whole shabang!

That kind of behavior is so foreign to me. I can't think of a single time I've ever spoken to someone else like that, nor would I ever.

I wonder how much of it might be echo chamber behavior. If you're constantly surrounded by people who think like you do, and you engage them in that way, then you might be more inclined to engage others that way, as well. For example, my in-laws (boomers), many of their siblings, my wife's grandma, are all very pro-Trump to a fault. They also employ a lot of Trump supporters and hang out in a lot of pro-Trump circles. So, when they get around my wife and I (both moderate) I think they forget that we do not have a love affair with Trump or any political candidate for that matter.

I distinctly recall the confusion on their face when they found out I voted for Biden and Don Bacon in 2020... like the idea of voting across party lines was just foreign to them.

I have friends that look at me like they have no clue why I would think this way when I tell them, I have absolutely no desire nor a reason to buy a handgun and carry it.

I have a close nit group of friends (really about the only ones that I discuss politics with) that almost are all MAGA major Trump supporters (or, at least have been at some point).  It's their entertainment when we are together to ridicule me because I have never supported Trump.  Interestingly, on Friday when we were all together, I think it was down to about 50/50 that voted for Trump.  I was shocked.  And, I know at least one that a couple months ago said he's voting for him. He ended up voting third party.

Here in Marin County a common greeting since last Tuesday is "so how are you coping?" 

It's just assumed you are gutted by the results.

My brother taught high school woodworking. He had a very good female student a couple years ago and he especially liked to encourage female woodworkers. She had to pitch her senior project to him, and it was for a living room coffee table with a hinged top that could open open up into a gun case. The design accommodated a scenario where you could quickly access an assortment of weapons upon someone entering your door, with the flipped-up table top offering at least some protection. It would of coursed be locked when children were around. 

My brother was a bit stunned by how casually she described this, but he could only pass judgement on the actual woodworking part of her proposal, which was solid. I guess it turned out beautifully, but what a strange fantasy for a young woman in suburban Lincoln, Nebraska to entertain.

Similar sentiments in the heart of Atlanta. A lot (most?) of my friends and acquaintances have responded with either catastrophic doomsday projecting or total nihilistic despair, but at the very least have been doing a great job of taking care of and showing up for each other even if I find their reactions to be wildly hyperbolic.

People forget that California is a very rural state by geography, and those rural counties have leaned red along with their largely Hispanic population, especially the immigrants  who got here first and like legions of American conservatives before them can't wait to pull the ladder up. If Dems were making 2024 a referendum on abortion, California always stood to lose a share of its Hispanics. California itself will remain a haven for legal abortion, moreso than ever.

The urban areas are still populous enough to outnumber the rural counties.. Metropolitan Californians have gotten a little tougher on crime and their progressive factions, but remain appalled that MAGA idiots will be in charge of everything at the federal level.  

It's been interesting watching Silicon Valley fawn over Donald Trump this week, including presumed enemies like Marc Benioff, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. I don't think they respect him a whit, but figured out that the right amount of flattery and a shared fondness for deregulation could be a profitable arrangement. I don't think anyone is really clear on how China will play out, or if Trump understands how tariffs really work, but I think they'd like to be his new friend and provide wise counsel.

It looks even the Urban counties shifted right some though.  Obviously not enough to make much of a difference, but in LA County Trump gained about 8% from where he was in 2020.  Something like 26% to 34%.   I wish the GOP would invest in more Hispanic outreach in CA for the next 3-4 election cycles and see how it pays off.

Well, USC is in LA and we just had election during the bye week which maybe affected how Rhule views the offense and made a change knowing LA County moved right which could affect the game plan on defense for them.  Soooooo Rhule decided to get a better OC!!!!!  It all fits

A Minnesota dad who ranted against President-elect Donald Trump online shot and killed his wife, ex-partner, and his two sons before turning the gun on himself, according to authorities.

Before his rampage, Anthony Nephew had been sharing left-wing and anti-Trump posts on his Facebook account. 



Anthony Nephew shared other political posts, including an image of former president Barack Obama, Trump, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The word “hate” sits under Trump’s face, while the words “hope,” “heal” and “grow” correspond with the Democratic politicians.
