The 2024 Election —What did we learn?

In any given year, we probably have, on average, around 1-2 kids that identify as trans in my school of approximately 700.  I have yet to meet a trans student at my school that even wants to even stretch in PE according to our PE teachers.

More kids are dying from shootings in schools every year than being injured by a trans athlete playing female sports.  Let's take care of the actual problems first.

Riley Gaines, the swimmer turned anti-trans activist after she tied for fifth place with a trans athlete, appeared on Fox News 29 times in 13 months.

As mentioned, the single biggest campaign ad for Trump did not address the economy, war, immigration, public health or education. It was an ad about transgenderism.

So what did we learn?

It works.

A friend of the family has an Admin role in the largest school here in the Tri Cities. I believe they have an enrollment over 2k.

He said in the last 5 years or so the number that identified as trans has multiplied exponentially. He estimated 50- ish this year that are openly identifying. Unknown how many, if any, have taken steps other than outward appearance and name changes.

And he says it is a huge problem if kids/staff accidentally (or maybe intentionally?) utilize their former "dead name".

Some of our kids get really pissed and choose to make it a huge deal.  But I think most understand it is usually totally accidental and are not offended.  At least in our building.  Out of the 3 I know this year, only one would get worked up, and he doesn't even come to school anymore.

The "funny" thing is, it is usually females transitioning to males in our building's experience.  And there is definitely some kids that try to copy trans kids, but we don't do  any name changes in the classroom unless asked by the parents.  We do have a lot more than 3 that want to be called a different name.

Yeah, this is what we do.  The parents have to "okay" it.

I have had parents say "No" before, where we are not to call their a different name.

Is this for any nickname, or is it only an issue if it is a gendered thing?

For example, the attendance record shows that the kid's name is Nicholas, but everyone calls him Nick, and he prefers Nick. Does the teacher have to get the parent's permission before calling the kid Nick? Or is it only if Nicholas prefers to be called Nikki or Nicole?

Yeah, like a super change.

Like if their name is John and they want to be called Clarice because now they are a girl.  So, if the parent(s) object then we call them John still.

It really doesn't happen much.  But I think when it does happen a kid tells the teachers they want to be called "Clarice" now and so the counselors call him and just make sure the parents are in the loop.

What would happen if John told the teachers that he wanted to be called Marvin or Darren? Would counselors call the parents?

Marvin:  Yes

Darren:  No, no call home for that!

Honestly, I don't know but probably just because it puts us in a weird spot when we do contact or meet the parents and are like "Hey, Marvin is doing great" and the parents are like "Who the f#&% is Marvin".

Our class rosters have their real name and then a nickname or different name listed if the parents have done that for them.
