If this is true, shouldn’t we expect our most coveted guys like Keona to leverage the portal then be negotiated back in? If so, no need to be concerned….yet.

Damn! The D-line guys were losing are def becoming a problem.
No way there is room for them all at FSU. Maybe they are just waiting to see who the next coach is and hedging their bets?

If they're in the portal, they probably aren't coming back. Emmett just threatened to go into the portal, he never actually went in.
For some of them maybe, but with how quickly things move we better hire someone fast. And whether guys stay or not we'll find a few guys to transfer in. We probably need to make significantly higher than market value offers to land any of the big fish without having a DL coach on the staff.

Half of these defensive players will be lucky to end up at a P5 team. Good luck.
A side note: the college football that we all grew to love is dead and gone. This is basically a AAA farm system where the pitcher gets paid millions while the catcher gets paid peanuts. It’s not sustainable and I feel the overall product has severely plummeted the last 2-3 years. I can’t see a world where the NCAA is intact in 10 years and calling them “student athletes” is cockeyed.

I keep saying it, but football must split from the NCAA and become it's own entity with a CBA, and 2-3 year contracts. All other sports should go back to what they used to be, with regional conferences. The NCAA can oversee all of that. IMO this is the only way we get some semblance of rationality back in things.

How is college football we knew dead and gone? There is more parity in the sport than ever which has sorely been needed. We just spend a decade of having to figure out which 3 other teams would get to face bama in the playoffs and if the SEC would get 50-75% of the playoff spots. NIL and portal have made it so much harder for the bama and georgias of the world just hoarding 5 star talent across the depth chart- now there is a greater distribution of top talent and it’s evened the playing field tremendously.
your take and many others scream of a disgruntled husker fan that thinks the sport is ending simply cause we’ve been crap for so long. Players were always getting paid, there are always rules and laws changing that alter the sport. I’m sure you weren’t complaining when Nebraska benefitted greatly when they were 1 of 8 schools on TV. I’m sure Osborne being a step ahead in the partial qualifier department wasn’t bad because u benefitted as a fan.
The sport is arguably in better shape than ever before. November was chalk full of meaning for once where literally 15-20 teams were battling for seeding or a ticket into the playoffs. Arizona state had a 10% chance of making the a playoffs a months ago and now they have a bye. Conf titles games have immense meaning now- Clemson punched their ticket in when previous years they’re playing for maybe a later bowl game of no meaning?
I grow tired of fans griping about how college football is in the gutter. Are things perfect? No, but rarely anything ever is perfect at first. Are we moving in the right direction? We sure as hell are- sure the pendulum swung prolly a bit too far in favor of players but this will be ironed out with rules in place to limit amount of times you can transfer, when, etc.
i don’t mean to be mean with this response but I really don’t think you or others would care at all if our Huskers weren’t pathetic for 10 years now

I get where you’re coming from, but l disagree that these changes benefit Nebraska. We’ve always had enough resources to compete with anyone and I fear these changes will ruin the one asset that we maintain sole possession of- fans. I can see the suddenness of these player rights alienating CFB support as a whole.
Lawyers are the ones behind this. Have you ever seen a lawyer reverse course? Is there really anything to ”iron out”? They, through the NCAA, were swift and decisive with the changes. They are going to change nothing. There is nothing in it for them if they give some rights back to the schools.

Timing of all of this could have been better mapped out. A big factor at play is all of the athletes playing a 6th year of eligibility due to Covid waiver. There’s a glut of players taking money and spots that should’ve graduated and moved on a year or 2 ago.
Limiting athletes to 1 transfer, reducing the transfer windows/moving dates, and making NIL contracts more binding to the school are all being discussed. There’s also chatter of capping what schools can pay, similar to a salary cap.
as far as Nebraska is concerned, this is really the first offseason we’ve been hit hard. I still believe we’re in a great spot to thrive in NIL but the on the field product simply has to get better and dramatically. Hausmann going to Michigan the only instance I can think of prior where it sucked. Our biggest deterrent to this is to play meaningful football games in December. Guys wont be bailing now if we’re prepping for a playoff game.

We're going to be up there near the top once paperwork gets filed with those who have made their intentions known. Scary to think how many kids will be left without a spot somewhere next season.

I saw where the Arizona State HC, Kenny Dillingham (?) told his players that if they wanted to enter the portal now so they don't miss out on other schools filling up, he would let them enter the portal and still participate in their playoff run. That was interesting and probably a smart move.

Feels like the right thing to do but also could have some longer term repercussions. Might be some resentment from guys who are sticking around that teammates bailing on them still get reps/playing time. A little bit similar to Frost and his staff coaching UCF's bowl game after accepting the Nebraska job, celebrated at the time but it did have some negative impacts.
