New DC

At the end of the day, it is all about trust.  I work with someone who has D1 and NFL coaching experience.  He said trust is really important in that profession, especially if you are getting squeezed.  I think who is the best guy should be number 1 consideration?  But I think few worry about that enough.  I know it sounds stupid, but this is what I hear.

I will absolutely agree that the DB struggled along the way.  I will also say that although I am not extremely excited about the hire, I will not hold this year's performance against him.  His secondary with the Bills was basically top notch.  I know from experience, it is not easy to replace popular coaches, even when it is done in a timely manner.  He was asked to come in really late in the game, replacing one of the more popular coaches on the team.  My guess is that the DB room wasn't thrilled with the sudden change.  He was also tasked with basically taking the scheme that was already in place, which may not have been his forte.

Tommi Hill wasn't bad to start the year, in fact, if you check after after the CU game, he was really popular.  He go hurt shortly thereafter and was never effective again.  Hartzog has always been too small and a liability. We have a few more who are "slow" and you can't coach slow. Wright actually had a pretty good year under JB.

In all fairness, you really can't judge until he gets a full year with his guys , his scheme, and a group that isn't pissy their favorite coach got let go.  With that said, he was NOT my pick to be the DC, but I will give him the benefit right now.
Mine either, but felt this was put in place last year.  In looking at the buffalo def. I can see how Bulter did not fit with White.  Buffalo run a lot of zone pass def. With a 3 & 4 man fronts & athletic LBs (thus we did not have).

Because you corner yourself by  not exploring other options.  It might be the right hire and you are 100% committed to it, but you at least have to open it up for external candidates for the optics of the process. That way when you are asked about it at a press conference you can say that we looked at all options and we decided our best option was already on staff.

Who knows, maybe they were open to an external hire and nobody moved the needle enough to make the move.
You're obviously not following the conversatiob

So as of now we are needing to hire a new DB coach as well correct? Be curious to see the direction we go there.
I would assume we hire someone, Butler is a DB coach and Snow has spent his entire career with DB… hopefully they hire someone, but a ton of experience with that group between those two guys. Do DC typically help with a position group, or Associate HC?

More of GM.  I'm guessing overseeing def., so Rhule can be the CEO.
And to think Tom got 3 NC(should have been 6…but I digress) with limits to his staff and him being the OC as well.  So now all of Rhule’s buddies can participate in the NU gravy train.
why hire 1 already well qualified DC (supposedly there was interest from many) when you can hire 2.  I’m being a bit sarcastic and skeptical but come on - he took the big job and approaching year 3 we are still tinkering with the staff.

And the good doctor never once changed staff. Nor did he ever switch his offensive or defensive schemes. Rhule should have gotten Skylor Magee or Kyle Krantz. Or both.
