2024 Transfer Portal Ins/Outs

Only 1 of the 3 LBs plays on the edge at all (Jack), the other 2 are true LBs and we try to rotate 3-4 guys through there. We only have one guy who has played there at all, Shavers.

Stenger is technically a scholarship LB, and I believe Gradney had already moved to LB before getting hurt. Jones, Mooberry, and potentially Merrit help the scholarship numbers but there is frighteningly little experience. I think we've just been outbid on the LBs so far and I have to imagine we're still trying to land at least one, even if Wright does pursue a waiver and comes back.

 
I like the LBs we have, but let's not pretend there's enough experienced depth here. I don't know what the difference are in Mike/Will for our defense, but the current depth chart is something like:

WILL                                                                      MIKE                                                                    JACK

Christian Jones (true freshman)                       Vincent Shavers (19 career tackles)               Willis McGahee IV (9 tackles, 1 sack)

Vincent Genatone? (1 career tackle)               Dylan Rogers (1 career tackle)                         Maverick Noonan (1 career tackle)

Pierce Mooberry (true freshman)                     Gage Stenger (3 career tackles)                      Dawson Merritt (true freshman)

We need at least one portal LB even if you assume Shavers takes a big leap, Jones is ready to play on day one, and Rogers and/or Genatone have developed into competent players. All of those things happening plus everyone staying healthy is not likely.

 
We need a 300+ block at NT.  We have some capable guys coming back on the d-line, but they are 260 to 280.

At LB, we have McGehee & Shavers.  Need a middle linebacker.  

We have youth at both of these possafety.  Need some older depth.

Could also use a good saftey.

We have assume some growth from out under classman.

We need a solid portal addition IMO. We have lacked at LB far too many years 

 
If nothing else, at least he has NFL size. Wouldn’t be surprised if we all end up praising Bradden for this evaluation and take. DLine prospects in the portal come at a very high price.

 
Strikes me that Nebraska doesn’t feel very good about other DL prospects. Be that money or just interest to get someone better. This one has to be a cheap price tag. Can’t imagine there are very many other power 5 suitors.
