The first thing to know about modern Conservatism is that being an 'outsider' and 'common person' is preferably to a slimy, WARSHington politician. Even if that common, outsider, pays to do drugs and have sex with minors. Nothing is more evil than a typical politician to these people, because these voters are really, really stupid.
The second thing to know, going back quite a long time, is that the second most evil thing to modern Conservatives is the elite cabal of *checks notes* public teachers. @teachercd would be public enemy #1 in s#!thole states like Oklahoma if he was unfortunate enough to live there.

And here it is that I live :facepalm: When we moved here in Nov 1978 - this was a very Democratic state. The Dems had all of the major offices but federal and local. The Reagan revolution cracked that wall a bit. The state has pretty much flipped to full GOP. But the MAGA revolution has brought out the worst characters and appeals to the lowest values and standards. We did have good moderate GOP leadership for years but those folks are no longer welcomed. There was no GOP candidate on the ballot that I would come close to considering. It has been that way for several years now.

Ha! I honestly never bring up my thoughts on politics in class but I am sure once those nuts out there found out that I did not have a driving gun, a home gun, a shopping gun and a gun just for fun, they would turn on me really fast!!!
With that said, 5 years ago, as a teacher, I was a HERO! Now, my god, people hate us, it has changed so much since covid.
It went from "Teachers are heroes, we need to drive by their houses and wave at them with our entire class because they need to know we love them!"

Meanwhile, you can't get the work-from-homers to EVER set foot back in the office. Because they are "more productive" from home!

I've been a Reagan Conservative and a Conservative Christian since before 1980. There is more danger to the Christian faith when wolves in sheep clothing distort the faith and politicalize it like Trump and MAGA have. Trump has become a 'savior' to so many that they forget that only Christ is the savior and our salvation isn't a political one. Normally difficult times strengthen the faith. But too many people are resisting this testing and opting out of growing in faith in face of adversity from the so called liberals. I'm more 'afraid' of wolves like Trump than liberals like... name whoever you want.
Destroyers of Good - most good social programs in the USA that help many of the disadvantaged were started by liberals - that is their strength. Churches - both liberal and conservative do a great job of helping the needy but they can't reach all. Therefore, a social safety net has helped many - the good of govt programs cannot be swept under a rug by fear mongering.
