I mean that is true but that's out of the hands of both schools. Also Texas is loaded with talent and didn't beat a top 10 team this year. That's not all on Ewers but he definitely was a weak link.  Wanted to say this sooner but didn't want to jinx it lol

I can see both sides of this debate. I believe the OP was probably referring to the fact that AM had the ability to give us a wider range of offensive firepower. He threw decent enough and gave us the element of zone read, option, scramble… basically a QB run game. I will die on the hill that AM was so much better than Husker fans gave him credit for. His OL was borderline pathetic. So many times he couldn’t even get out of his drop to begin the reading process. Just look at what he did at KSU pre injury and now beyond. With that said, yes, one would think that we should have won more games, especially with the defense that was in place.

With DR, he is more of a prototypical pocket passer. I am a big fan of his and am excited to see how he progresses!!! I do have a sense that because he was such a coveted recruit, that fans are hoping so badly that he will be the guy who turns this around that people jump quickly to defend. If he was a 4* kid, like many we have had, everyone would be talking about his lack of mobility and escapability, along with him lobbing balls off of his back foot way too many times. For some, it seems like it is almost sacrilegious to even point out potential faults or areas of growth when it comes to DR. He is a true freshman who is came here to start. He would not have seen the field at many of the top 10 schools with the QBs that were in place. Let’s give him time to grow and learn, but at the same time, at this moment, he is far from an All American.

I don't recall that we were all that critical of Adrian. My recollection is that most of us wanted better for him, and were pretty unhappy he followed his GF to KSU.

I think the only reason he's being brought up is that KRC compared him to Raiola.

 
AM had a pretty exciting true freshman year.  Everyone I know of was very excited to have him for the next three years.   The problem for AM is that he didn’t improve/slightly regressed in the subsequent years.   And he was a turnover machine unfortunately.  
 

I also don’t know of many people who are afraid to criticize DR’s play this year.  However, the knowledgeable ones out that criticism into perspective knowing he was in as true freshman year with a limited talent roster at skill positions.  If he has the same trajectory as AM the next few years, that would be a disappointment.  However, his baseline freshman year is a very good starting point and if he progresses each year like we all hope, Dr will be in the legit top 5 QB’s in the nation as a junior which portends great things for Nebraska.  
 

The big IF, is will he continue to progress and get better.

It was not. I think you’re not reading, just sniping. If you’re going to put the effort into commenting, why not read the posts first? 
 

and for context, I think the defense kept us in a few games this year as well.

Ehh, maybe, but I don't see a lot of people rushing to defend or align with your views on DR... not here or even in the more public/national conversations. Obviously, that's anecdotal and unscientific.

And sure, 'not bullish' may not be highly critical, but it certainly isn't neutral or positive lol.

A poll probably isn't going to tell us anything unless we accurately define the question we're trying to answer. Are we trying to determine if people are optimistic or not optimistic about DR, or answer some other question about him? When I proffered that your opinion was likely unpopular, I was specifically talking in reference to being "not bullish" about him aka lacking confidence, enthusiasm, or optimism about him.

 
AM got to KState, with better coaching and a better team and well, looked a lot better....Went to the UFL and won the championship and MVP.  Proof positive (no one needs convincing) that coaching and team matters to success.  Rhule has made changes and recruited to portal hard to get guys who can be "better" than what we have.  Next year we struggle to get 6 wins again, I'll start to have some concerns. Until then, it's great to know we won a bowl, finished 7-6 and have the #1 portal class in the B1G and also the 2nd most B1G players in the portal.  Gotta get to 105.

 
The recruiting hype of both QBs prior to arrival is a portion of why I believe there is criticism.
 

While the OL hasn’t been outstanding, there are times the QBs decision making has caused breakdown of protection. 
 

Neither QB has had a ground attack established with a reliable RB. 

Neither have had WRs or TEs that Taylor or Tommy had. 
 

Both have had poor QB development and bad OCs.

Despite all of these factors out of their control, where I place criticism on the individual is lack of game winning performances when presented with the opportunity. In fact, there have been plenty of game ending fumbles or INTs. 
 

Some players will their team to victory, AM failed to show he could. Based on what I’ve seen so far from DR I’m not going to hold my breath. I do see the potential that he could kick it up another level and be a stud.
