Dylan Raiola

I can see both sides of this debate. I believe the OP was probably referring to the fact that AM had the ability to give us a wider range of offensive firepower. He threw decent enough and gave us the element of zone read, option, scramble… basically a QB run game. I will die on the hill that AM was so much better than Husker fans gave him credit for. His OL was borderline pathetic. So many times he couldn’t even get out of his drop to begin the reading process. Just look at what he did at KSU pre injury and now beyond. With that said, yes, one would think that we should have won more games, especially with the defense that was in place.

With DR, he is more of a prototypical pocket passer. I am a big fan of his and am excited to see how he progresses!!! I do have a sense that because he was such a coveted recruit, that fans are hoping so badly that he will be the guy who turns this around that people jump quickly to defend. If he was a 4* kid, like many we have had, everyone would be talking about his lack of mobility and escapability, along with him lobbing balls off of his back foot way too many times. For some, it seems like it is almost sacrilegious to even point out potential faults or areas of growth when it comes to DR. He is a true freshman who is came here to start. He would not have seen the field at many of the top 10 schools with the QBs that were in place. Let’s give him time to grow and learn, but at the same time, at this moment, he is far from an All American.

I was critical of AM until I realized it had a lot more to do with Frost than AM.

With Holgersen on board I'm not worried about Dylan's progress.  I think he'll be quite a bit better next year.

This is huge for DR. Holgersen has a track record of really good offenses that play to the QBs strengths, putting him in positions to be successful. DR did not have that with Satt.

Fingers crossed. I will remain skeptical until I see it- what I don’t know- but it.

I could see how breaking the all-time Freshman passing yards and completion percentage records, while having a lame duck coordinator, and leading the team to its best season in 8 years would foster a sense of . . . skepticism.
I have no reason to think that an anything new will result in wins.  Lincoln seems to have been sprinkled with pixie dust.

And ha! Weirdly,  DR stole the record from AM because he had a bowl game.  But let’s face it, any passing record at Nebraska should be viewed with perspective.

Edit- Adrian played in 11 games his freshman year. As opposed to 13 for Dylan. There was a game called for lightening.

He had more success because he had more success.  It do be like that sometimes.

I do think Martinez would have made a bowl game if he had the guys Raiola had around him instead of chumps like Devine Ozigbo and Stanley Morgan and JD Spielman and Maurice Washington and the like.

And we might have gone to a better bowl if Raiola had less guys like Barney around him. So I’ll give you that.

if by 'guys Raiola had around him' you mean the coaching staff and the defense, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would actually disagree with you.

His point is my point. Which is funny.  Dylan needs guys around to accumulate the same amount of total yards that Adrian did. Dylan had Barney, and that’s about it.  Of course Adrian couldn’t get a snap, but that’s for another topic.

all this defending my very benign comment has led to the conclusion that Rhule’s start here sucked. From the baffling choice of assistants to the poor choice of portal pickups, it all sucked. He’s nice and talks a smooth talk, and I don’t want him gone, but if your going to acquire and play a five star freshman, make sure he can succeed.
