So sick....

For those of you who can't see the difference between Bill Callahan's response to a loss like this, and Bo Pelini's response.....get a clue. Maybe you just don't understand how passion fuels progress.

The team is not what it was last year. It's going to get better. The phrases "We're a work in progress" and "We're going to have to get better" and "It's my fault" should give you a clue as to a change in accountability in the program. Are you not listening to these things when they're said? Well now that you have coach that will tell you the truth, try listening. I know you WANT to hear something different, but he's telling you we're working through where we're at....a 5-7 team with a new coaching staff.

There is a HUGE difference between a realist and a pessimist. Realism says to be concerned that we are not playing well enough to compete in this league. Pessimism says we're not a good enough program to compete in the league. Talent is about speed and ability, not offsetting the lack of discipline and mental mistakes that have killed us. Why don't you wait until we play well, before you decide we have no talent. If we play a well executed game and still get our butts kicked, THEN we can start talking talent.

To my knowledge, we haven't done that yet.

And for people asking what a true fan is....a true fan, is simply a fan who SUPPORTS their team through thick AND thin. They may go up and down emotionally, based on the results, but they do NOT start ragging the program, the players, the coaches, or taking up a loser's mentality because they've been getting outplayed. Fire this guy, bench that guy...5 games into losing against two teams we thought could beat us bad if we didn't play excellent football.

Since when does 'Husker Pride' start showcasing itself as entitlement and whining? Hard work, faith and patience pay off, but I guess some people are just spoiled pessimists (aka 'fair weather' fans).

How are phrases like "we won't", "we can't", "we don't", cry cry cry....SUPPORTING your team? It's a process called 'group think'. One person starts a negative thread and it sways the negativity in others. It snowballs.

You have every right to do this, but as a fan, how is this helping the program or your fellow fans move forward? I hope this negative attitude doesn't spill over into your real lives...

"I'm a fan, but I'm going to take my shots at the program, even though there is another big game to play next week. I'm going to cry and whine about how everything sucks. As a 'fan', this is my best contribution to help get things moving in a positive direction. I think my negative b**ching and pessimism is a very sensible approach."

Seriously, if you don't have faith in the team and positivity to support the struggle.....go root for Missouri or Kansas. There's plenty of room there for you to blow in the breeze.

That was great. I want to be on top and winning just like everyone else on here but it aint gonna happen. We can look forward to the close games against baylor, ia state, and k-state. Take what we can get and try to improve. Look what Bo inhearated. A broken team, players that jumped ship. A whole mess of media over him just comming over here. Recruts that jumped ship or turned away because they saw what a circus it was over here. Not good, he hasnt started with a whole lot of positives. Plus a already hostile fanbase who wants results and wants them quickly. It cant be done like that. There are going to be growing pains and i hope we start getting even better next year but i dont see this lasting 4 years. It could be worse, we could of never won anything at all.

Well said.

It's times like these when the fans need to be more supportive.

It's easy to cheer for an undefeated team, you show your true colors when you stick by them in the hard times too.

Sorry bud, but last night was a far more illustrative game of this team than I'd ever dreamed it could be. Going into the season I really thought we had the talent to at least compete with the Missouri's of the world, but we don't. Our team is slow, unphysical, and unprepared to compete in the Big XII. I mean with all sincerity that we'd have trouble running the table in the MAC or WAC. Does that make me a fair weather fan? No, I still wear the colors, tune in on Saturdays; but it makes me long for the day when Pelini has a full cupboard of his own players with depth, discipline, and ability.

The fundamental reality of our situation is that we lack the capability to play good football. In some areas I can see coaching as a problem, but let's not forget where these players have been. Five touchdown losses aren't a novelty with a majority of the roster.

actually the realist says we are not good enough to compete, the pessimist says that is's gonna be like that for another 3 years (or was that the optimist?! ...i'm getting confused with all the -ists

we lack the capability to play good football.
That's the only thing I disagree with you on, X...

"The Huskers' penalty rundown: 14 for 101 yards against Missouri; 7-69 against Virginia Tech; 7-41 vs. New Mexico State; 12-103 vs. San Jose State; 6-60 vs. Western Michigan." - LJS

Isn't playing good football relative? For Texas Tech, playing good football is not rushing for 300 yards. It's executing the fundamentals of their system. It's avoiding mistakes.

Are you telling me that our players don't have the 'capability' to make tackles? Because, I've seen them tackle.

Are you telling me that our players don't have the 'capability' to read defensive keys and execute? Because, I've seen a few interceptions, batted passes, sacks, forced fumbles, etc.

Are you saying Ganz isn't capable enough to make better decisions at times? Because, I've seen him orchestrate some very crisp drives.

Have we not seen flashes of good football from all of our units at times this season? If you have, then it's not about fundamental capability. It's about consistency, technique and focus. Translating what you do in practice, to the field, is not a matter of recruiting stars.

The fundamental reality is that there is a ton of youth and inexperience at several positions. Plus, the 'experienced' players have a lot of bad habits....but that doesn't make them incapable of playing well enough to win games.

Right now, we can't compete with the Mizzous of the world.

Two Heisman candidates on offense, among other things, are beyond our capacity to stop.

If you thought otherwise, that's great, but we're just not there yet. I wasn't surprised, and I don't particularly understand why anyone else is so surprised.

One thing I don't particularly agree with is the term "Missouris of the world" - as if they are some pushover team. Mizzou has a solid program right now, that's why they are ranked so high and 2nd in the league in total offense, etc. I'm not sure if you meant it that way or not, but, to tell you the truth, the "Mizzous of the world" are the teams that people are going to lose to.

Also, I think the original post in this thread is very good.

AWESOME, AWESOME post. To those who said that it's time to fire Bo Pelini, you're not true Husker fans. Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri all had to go through what we were doing now. With KU and Mizzou, it took awhile before they were on top of the Big 12 world. Just give it time. Things will be better. Now I knew something like this would happen given how strong the Big 12 is. You can't go from losing record to instant contenders in one year. It doesn't work that way. PATIENCE is the name of the game. Give it that and all will be good. To the losers who wanted Bo out, just deal with what we have now. Things will look better.

Very well said. It is natural to be disappointed at this point, but I think we have to keep a positive outlook as fans, otherwise it will transfer to the players and the coaches. When nothing is expected of you, you don't give 100%.

I don't even know where to begin with this. First of all, a lot of the penalties you accrue on defense result from being physically outmatched. When you encounter receivers you can't cover, you hold and interfere. When you're not athletic enough to get in position to make tackles, you grab at facemasks. Talent and penalties are NOT unrelated.

If you think we have the athletic ability on defense to compete with the likes of Missouri, I urge you to watch the game again. Granted, there were moments when our schemes had our guys out of position. But there were also plenty of plays when we had guys in position to make plays and they flat out got BEAT.

If you want to tell yourself that if it weren't for some dumb penalties and a little bit better game plan we could've competed with Missouri, that's fine. But if that's the case, it's only fair to question the coaching staff for not having instilled more discipline and having developed a better game plan. Bo said as much after the game, all I'm saying is that I agree with him. I haven't heard anyone talk about firing anyone or benching anyone.

wow... good luck with that.

that's what I said.

...repeatedly.

I put manginos record up, and pinkels.

I was told this ain't KU, this ain't MU and this ain't CU.

this is nebraska.

go figure.

patience is a virtue.

GO BO!!
