Need help with banners again.

Nice work on the banner, it looks good. Just wanted to get your thoughts on something.

Since we now have the contest banner under the main header, how bout we just leave the huskerboard header static again, and rotate the Huskernation banner in with the Contest banner?

I dont think it looks bad right now by any means, but can see how to some newer ppl we may come off as a "flashy / ad" overwhelmed site, with those 2 being at the top, and at times both of them are flashing simultaneously, w/both referring to huskernation.com. And justified or not, many ppl associate blinking banners with spam & other negative internet connotations.

What I've learned in studying internet advertising is that subtle ads can often be more effective than blinking ads, b/c ppl have trained themselves to be desensitized to flash.

I dont think its a bad idea to have one of them flashing, but usually a good approach is to have it run through the ad cycle 2-3 times (beginning again each time the page is refreshed), and then stopping it on the final "click here to get this benefit" frame - b/c most everyone has seen it by that point that will read it.

We could then also use that bottom banner to promote the huskernation discount codes etc. throughout the holidays.

What do you guys think?

And as always big ups to everything you guys have done this season. Eric & I appreciate it greatly, and won't forget it.

Works for me. I've replace the main banner with the static version, and linked it again to the board. I've added the "$50" version to replace the "$25" version.

My one thought is that, during the season, we might want to leave the Contest banner up - but as you note, just have it rotate through 2-3 times and then end with text to Enter The Contest or something similar, and have it link to the Prediction thread as we're doing now. For promos to HuskerNation during the season, do what we did before - have a text strip below both banners. We can easily add and remove it - and since the promos would, I would guess, be of short duration, it would probably grab more eyeballs that way.

Then, after the season, replace the contest banner with a static HuskerNation, linked to HuskerNation.com. We could either then use the text strip below it for promos, or create custom banners that include the current promo.

Guys, I retooled the HN banner some. I couldn't do an exact match to the previous text but it is close. It combines the gift offer and the normal HN banner. I made it a little smaller than the normal HB banner, trying to make it a little more pleasing to the eyes at the top of the site. Comments? Criticism?

I like it - but then again, I like all your stuff.

I've had a thought (hey, it happens).

Rather than having a banner that lists each week's amount under the Prediction contest, would it not be better to have two banners - one for during the season, and one for off-season?

The first could be the one above, but eliminate the amount of the award. We can then link it to the Prediction threads each month.

The second would be just the HuskerNation logo, which we could link to the HuskerNation web site - it would be the same, but eliminate the text to the contest and the chance to win a gift certificate from HuskerNation.

If we do that, then we don't have to keep creating banners every week during the season - which could conceivably come to 14 different banners for a season. All we would have to do is put up the "Contest" version in-season and change the link to each Prediction thread each week. After the season, we replace it with the version that just has the HuskerNation info, and link it to HuskerNation.com.

Thoughts?
