Unfortunately the rumor is true. It was a booster's wife. TO wanted to fire him, but Bo said if he goes, then I go. The chancellor got involved and nothing of this sort is listed in his code of conduct agreement. He will not be fired. From what I understand, TO was not too happy being one-up'd.

Friend's mom works in Athletic Department. Also best friend is a cop in Omaha, his partner played there. Says it has been going on for 3 months and the University is scrambling trying to keep it quiet.

Not exactly CNN, but I trust them......

I don't doubt there is some truth to your story, but I also know there are many faults in it. That's all I'm going to say.

If this is true, I'd assume TO will resign sometime this summer as AD. However, I can't see the chancellor one upping TO especially when taking into account as to how TO got to be the AD.

 
First, I hope this isnt true....I have a hard time believing that Pearlman would over rule Osborne, and if push comes to shove, as good as Carl/Bo is, they have done NOTHINNG compared to Dr. Tom.

Because I think Pearlman respects Osborne, I dont think he goes against his wishes.

Furthermore, Bo (although fairly confident) probably wouldn't "fight" TO ..... not in this state. A Holiday bowl win doesnt compare to TO's accomplishments.

I trust that some of this info is correct, but I dont buy the "entire" story. I am sure TO is pissed, but I cant see him firing Carl, especially since some of the issues TO has dealt with and forgiven in the past with players and coaches.

** I guess it depends on "who" the booster is and what kind of relationship TO has with him. Also, makes you wonder if any of this is why TO was VERY QUICK to put a spin on the "raises".

Sorry, don't buy everything.......TO wins any battle he wants at UNL...... (unless it is in politics)

This is just such rubbish. You act as if TO couldn't possibly stomach the thought of a coach doing something like this. You have zero concept, apparently, of what our coaches were like in the 80s and 90s.

To act as if Osborne would be out for Carl's head because Carl slept around with some booster's wife is a stereotype, nothing more.

Why do people believe this garbage?

I don't think some people realize what actually was happening in the 70-80-90's......

The program was not out of control like Miami, but believe me, regardless of how great and upstanding TO is (which he may be the best man alive), the program was anything but perfect.

An extra-marital affair would be just a small blip on the radar.... and with today's society, the blip is even smaller.

Remember, it takes "two to tango".....why is Pelini getting the heat, what about the woman? I doubt he "forced" her....

Said before, I dont condone or support it, but don't put a lot of emphasis on it either.

Don't shoot the messenger!!!!!!! Just adding to an already ongoing story/speculation.........I am fully aware of what went on in years past. TO gave Phillips another chance after dragging a woman down a flight of stairs by her hair. I'm sure he will make his peace with this in time. The decision to immediately dismiss Carl was probably premature.

Bottom line........This shameful (but not fire-able) situation DID happen. Time to move on to 2010.........

 
The whole sequence of events, from Carl's raise being announced to TO coming out and squashing it, is just weird.

 
Honestly, if some idiot hadn't reported there was an 80% raise (which is ridiculous in and of itself) this rumor

would have run out of gas shortly after the bowl game. Carl Pelini isn't going anywhere and I doubt there was

even any truth to it in the beginning. Why don't these idiots just get involved in recruiting because there's

plenty of rumors there that don't tarnish the reputations of coaches or the University?
