My original idea was to eliminate his posting ability for a couple of days, but I also don't want to be the only one making the call here. Should we bring him back, or is he done?

Lance, do you get email addressed to Mods@huskerboard.com? Chad and I had an email conversation about this, and addressed it to all mods and admins. I outlined his history and what happened, and provided Chad with quotes and links. He's fine with the ban.

If you don't get that email, you might want to email or PM slacker to get your email address added to the mods@huskerboard.com distribution list.

Oh, and if anyone else isn't receiving mail from that distribution list, you probably should contact slacker as well - we do some behind the scenes discussions with that address.

Knapp, I think it's admirably lenient if you let him back as planned. I'd support that, but I won't argue against a ban. It does seem like a ban is more punitive than necessary at this point - but not undeservedly punitive. Generally, I think people get heated quite frequently, but unless they are here to just stir up crap or be really obnoxious, I usually don't see banning as a necessary recourse. This is just me, though.

Personally, I have a very low tolerance for members who attack mods or challenge their authority. I don't mind if they do it to me, but it pisses me off if they do it to anyone else.

We don't ask much of the members, and it isn't as if we throw our weight around or drop the hammer immediately. Just my thoughts, but as always, not just my call - we all need to weigh in. If most want to reinstate, I'm fine with that.

Frank, I get those emails. I purposefully stood back from that discussion because I was involved in the situation and didn't want to seem as if my input was personal in nature.

I think if we don't ban him now it's just a matter of time until we do. The most concerning part about it was the disregard for the board's authority. He had zero concern for the ramifications of his actions, and in fact challenged me to do something about his behavior. I warned him that I had the power to ban him and he flat out said, go ahead and do it. He turned what could have been a simple thing into a confrontation, and there was just no reason for it.

In contrast, I've sent a good dozen PMs over the past couple of weeks to people for various things like mild swearing and personal attacks, basic "calm down" stuff, and every time the member comes back with a PM that says, "Sorry, it won't happen again." The fact that it didn't happen this time is telling.

Important: He was not truly forthcoming about the nature of his retorts and their content. BAN

If he/she'd a said I screwed up and sorry instead of pointing the finger then a time out might have done the trick. .02

That's because he was on suspension - I've banned the account. He won't be able to even sign in, now.

No. If a Mod suspends/bans, they can at least see the Board and the posts. Their account has to be banned as well by an Admin, and then they can't even see the Board (assuming they log in). If they don't log in, then I believe that they can see the Board as a guest.

As long as we have warned him politely and the person simply doesn't follow through they can't come back. Knapplc it's your decision. I support it either way. :)

Well, here's how it went. Knapp warned him politely, but he insisted on getting mouthy. So I snuck into his house, duct taped him to a chair, and slapped the $hit out of him. He still got mouthy so I ................*clears throat*...........(brooklyn accent) I took care of it.

Eric, I was polite. I even offered him a chance to rethink his decision, and confirmed that I had the ability to "ban" him if he chose to continue on that tack.

It's a big deal to ban a member, especially a member who's been around for a while. That's why I didn't want to be the only one making the decision. I think we work better as a team on these decisions, plus it keeps personal grudges out of the equation.
