Mandel is an unapologetic Bronco supporter. I love the guy but he blatantly pulls for them.

If Texas upsets Oklahoma we'll play a ranked Texas and a ranked Oklahoma State. Kind of surprised Kansas State hasn't slipped into the rankings yet, either, even though they're pathetic. I doubt the Big 12 South Champion will be unranked at the end of the season, either, whoever it turns out to be.

We had about 100 posts from about 100 members all last season moaning about our schedule this year. While everyone was cracking on our "Sun Belt Championship" we were saying, "Yeah, just look at next year's schedule."

We knew this was coming, and we knew that we got saddled with this stupid schedule by Pedey, and we knew that he did it to get Callahan some easy wins. Now we just have to suffer through it and we're done.

Just keep thinking to yourselves, "Two more wins and we're bowl eligible."

VT lost to James Madison this year. Enuf said!!!!

I was laughing my A** off when people were saying that the close loss to boise state effected them against james madison. They said that it could of been a "Hangover" from the previous week. There is no excuse for losing to JM and the worst part of it is that JM is right down the road from VT.

VT played BSU very tough on the first game of the year and should've beat them. (L33-30) Enuf said!!! VT lost to James Madison.

Oregon St plays Washington in two weeks, I will say it now, Washington will beat OSU. BSU had issues beating OSU but Washington was destroyed by NU. If UW beats OSU, it means NU's win is that much more impressive.

i could not disagree more with this article. if mandel is arguing that NU has an easier non-conference schedule than bsu, there is not question. but if he is arguing that NU has an easier complete schedule than bsu, he is out of his mind. the problem with this article is that he could only publish it this week. it is not a timeless article; lets see the revision of this at the end of the year. also, he seems to be trying to defend bsu, but he is only bashing NU. what, he is going to go through every school and come up with some argument why bsu is just as deserving as that school? it is like some political hit piece, but bsu does not have to prove it is more deserving than just NU (which if both teams were undefeated at the end of the year, i think the bcs rankings, including the sos, would make it quite apparent that bsu is much less deserving than NU), bsu has to prove it is more deserving than almost any other undefeated team, including an undefeated TCU. :moreinteresting mandel's argument is specious, at best.

NU does not need a tough non-con, nor should it seek one. with how tough conference play is, why start the gauntlet early? and it is because bsu that NU should have a weak non-con. why schedule a tough non-con when there are teams that are just trying to meet the bare minimum and still get a shot at the championship? there is no advantage to one when the only goal is to be undefeated. this is why there should be a playoff, because with one loss, your season is not done. with a playoff and a stronger emphasis on strength of schedule, that would make better football and demand stronger non-con. or, screw non-con and just play everyone in your conference. then bsu would be screwed because they could not schedule a tough non-con (although they are changing conferences), and the big 10 would provide a great schedule a create great football and a true conference champion.

The money was never the issue. You're fooling yourself if you think Nebraska cares about the difference between 800K and 1M. They make over $5M per home game. Heck, ESPN supposedly even offered to pay the difference in return for being able to carry the game in the time slot of their choosing. The real issue was Nebraska not wanting to add a game of this caliber with decent OOC games against Washington and Fresno already set, especially with the Nebraska QB situation being a big mystery (at the time of the initial talks, Lee was the expected starter for '10, leaving the '11 picture a crapshoot) and Boise returning one of the nation's top players for his senior season (Moore).

Not wanting to look bad, Nebraska made a PR stunt by offering Boise a 2 and 1 series (with no money exchanged) they knew Boise would turn down (the deal would be worth about $10M for Nebraska vs. $2M for Boise). Then someone in the media (Shatel) falls for the ploy and hundreds of thousands of OWH readers follow suit.

This is such a load of crap it's hard to believe anyone buys it.

Yeah, that’s the thing. Our pre-season cupcake sched is over. Not many slam dunk games for NU from here on out. But Boise is past the tough part of their schedule. The only decent game they play for the rest of the year is Nevada. Big whooop.

The thing is, guys like Mandel (AP writers), only refer to the AP poll when they talk about rankings. They live in a fantasy world where their vote still matters

Their votes may not really matter, but they really do watch a whole lot more football than any of the coaches do.
