NCHuskerfan2001, don't forget that the school that kicked this all off was Missouri when their school and their state governor started making googly eyes at the Big 10. The Big 10 was going to act on Missouri until Nebraska made it known it was willing to entertain offers. No amount of southern spin can dispel the clear reality of what is happening: The University of Texas at Austin is close to having played a critical role in the collapse of not one, but two major collegiate conferences in less than twenty years. Incredible.I havn't posted on here in while but i thought this was interesting My link. It looks like with the texas network ironed out that A&M has decided to bail and it wont be long before the the big 12 is no more. It just makes me wonder if nebraska will go down in history as the smart school that was the first to get off the sinking ship or the School that started the hole that is sinking the ship. Sorry if there is a thread for this already I didnt see one.
Nebraska clearly emerges as a school with foresight that was bizarrely and inexplicably not shared by all in the what is soon to be the defunct Big 12.
And both the SEC and the aTm sites have said similar things:
1) Missouri is hot on the SEC, and the SEC is hot on them. Missouri brings two new media markets (KC and St. Louis)--add that to Houston and 1/2 of San Antonio, and the SEC just scored a major deal that boosts football, basketball, AND their media footprint.
2) OU can't move w/o OSU, and OU, OSU, and T. Tech have been talking with the Pac-12 about a 'golden parachute' deal. Don't know who the fourth team would be, but I suspect it would only be a Big XII team if either Missouri doesn't get a SEC deal (Plan C as it were), or if Kansas is unable to shackle itself from K-State (entirely plausible supposedly due to the state legislature's makeup), Kansas or K-State.
The questions are whether or not the SEC and/or Big 10 will stand pat at 14 and 12 (respectively) if the Pac-12 goes 16.
I think the SEC will and will be happy at 14--other than Maryland, there are no other reasonable media markets they can gobble up.
The Big 10 will likely take a hard look at Maryland and, most likely, Kansas, to improve the 'wow' factor on both the market and national cache fronts.
All in all, should be another good off-season next year.![]()
If the Big 10 took Kansas that would make a good basketball conference. Probably better than the Big East.
