I nominate my advisor.
What program are you in?
Ag Ed at NWMSU
I was in the business school at UNL for about a year and a half, and those advisers were terrible. Maybe it had something to do with the sheer amount of students they deal with - I don't know. All I know is that I never left an advising meeting feeling like I knew what the hell I was doing.

Thankfully, the journalism school is a hell of a lot better, and more personable.

I would be an excellent advisor.

The advisors are BRUTAL in CBA.. E-mail says Jrs and Srs talk to your advisor for classes and information with any questions/problems you have... Frosh/Soph go to advising office.. So as a Jr, I go to my advisor....he tells me to go to the advising office and not waste his time... sick life.

They really drop the ball on advising at CBA. Do they even assign a specific adviser to students, and is that adviser always available to answer questions? I remember that they did, but I only met them once before transferring. Otherwise, I was waiting in lines to see a random adviser.

The COJMC assigned me an adviser who makes time for me regularly, and they have a guy whose entire job is to do nothing but help students with their degree audits. The first time I met him, he figured out my next three years in less than 10 minutes.

Then, again, I think the COJMC has significantly fewer students than the CBA, which allows the COJMC to have more personable advisers.

ESPN blew the whole Bo Ryan thing way out of proportion.
what happened?
Bo was on vacation and got a call from a Freshman saying he wanted to transfer. Bo has had only one transfer in over a decade at Wisconsin and wanted to know what was going on and said he wouldn't bless off on a transfer until he got back...the kid said he wouldn't wait and didn't want to talk to anyone from the athletic department so Bo and Barry drew up some restrictions on where they'd let him transfer....no Big Ten Schools, no Florida or Marquette. The player, a redshirt freshman by the name of Jarrod Uthoff listed 16 total teams he was interested in four of which Bo had placed restrictions on.

Anyhow Bo is now back from vacation had a chance to talk to Uthoff and has removed restrictions from all non-Conference teams.

what's the significance of Florida and Marquette to Bielma? i could understand not letting the kid transfer to another BIG school however

Ryan was unnecessarily vindictive about it. He ended up with a list of over 25 schools that he wouldn't let the kid transfer to. As if Wiscy could make a list of 25 or more schools that Ryan or Bielema or any other coach "couldn't move to" and have it stick. That would never fly - but it's OK to pull a stunt like that on some college kid?

This isn't just about Bo Ryan, although he was pretty douchey about this whole thing. It's a stupid thing for the NCAA to allow this crap to go on. They already have the one-year rule where a kid has to sit out. Letting schools write up ban lists for athlete transfers is stupid.
