12-Team Playoff On the Way; 14-Team to Follow

Seeing Alabama excluded from a 12 team playoff is almost as good as Nebraska making it back to a bowl game
Agree.  The committee got this one right.  I do think Oregon has the toughest path of the top 4 seeds and that is a result of requiring Boise State and Arizona State to get a first round bye. I would like to see the committee do away with that automatic bye.

Keep the bye but just reseed after the first round. Which they won't ever do, because it makes too much sense.

Only change needed is the top 4 conf champs should not get auto byes. Boise State and ASU should be the 9th and 11th seed.

I suppose I’d be okay with having 16 teams but really don’t think it’s necessary. If they do that, the conf championship games seem like too much, but then conferences won’t have winners based on the on the field champion.

Maybe instead of "Chasing Three" Nebraska needs to aim much higher.  We need to be chasing some game changing players from the portal.  So many teams passing us and waving goodbye in their rear-view mirror.
Or don’t handicap ourselves with:

- a terrible OC for 75% of the season when you have a (supposedly) generational QB

- terrible long snappers and kickers who’ve never done a damn thing at this level

Those 2 things alone cost us multiple wins.

I'm not a fan of adding more subjectivity to what already exists.

Reading the angst over which teams get byes just continues to reinforce how much better 8 or 16 teams would be.
The angst is what makes college football great.  There would be angst over who is 8-10 or 15-18 in those other two scenarios, you aren't getting it to go away.  Here, if you want a bye but didn't get one, play better!  Simple as that.  It was fine this year anyway, only conference champ that didn't get one was 3 loss Clemson.  The other teams that don't like it should have won their conference, per the rules.

I prefer 8 - or at least I did before there were were two power conferences - but there would have been a TON more angst with 8 this year.  Even if you only did the top four conference champions - which would have left out the Big XII champion - only choosing four out of Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Indiana, SMU and maybe even Alabama would have led to significant arguments.

Probably slightly less angst at 16 this year because it would lack the Alabama/SMU argument.  But the Miami, Ole Miss, South Carolina, BYU argument would still be there.

If you do 4, teams 5 and 6 are mad.

If you do 8, teams 9 and 10 are mad.

If you do 12, teams 13 and 14 are mad.

If you do 16, teams 17 and 18 are mad.

If you do 24, teams 25 and 26 are mad.

If you do 68, teams 69 and 70 are mad.

If you do 4, teams 5 and 6 are mad.

If you do 8, teams 9 and 10 are mad.

If you do 12, teams 13 and 14 are mad. Plus everyone is mad about who got byes and who did not.

If you do 16, teams 17 and 18 are mad.

If you do 24, teams 25 and 26 are mad. Plus everyone is mad about who got byes and who did not.

I think 14, if not 16 is probably inevitable because I imagine Sankey is going to demand a minimum of 4 SEC teams guaranteed and Tony Petitti is likely going to follow suit in throwing their weight around.  My goal is I hope people will see how much better the games are on campus this playoff so we get to the point that just the semifinals and the national championship game is a Bowl.
