"I love the Nebraska fans," Johnson Jr. said. "I love how they are always commenting on Twitter and saying 'Go Big Red' and stuff, but when I was in the stands I heard some of them kind of talking about Coach Riley and saying, 'Oh he should be fired' and things like '(Riley) shouldn't be coaching for us, this isn't the Nebraska way, we don't go 2-4.'
"I get all of that, but I think it's kind of disrespectful. Coach Riley is kind of the only reason why I'm looking at Nebraska or even started to look at Nebraska. It's because of Coach Riley and Coach Williams and the coaches that are there. So for them to say that they should be fired, I just think it's kind of messed up because it's their first season. Like, have they even been able to recruit much? Is that their team with their guys?
"I can understand that the Nebraska fans of like 30 or 40 years aren't used to being 2-4 because they're used to winning National Championships. I just feel like they should give Coach Riley a chance. You can't always expect huge things in your first season as a head coach at a different place, installing a different system in a different environment."
