2014 Starting Roster vs. FL Atlantic based on the Gator Bowl two-deep

Thank you Nick. You've been woodshedded.
You remember the #1 rule about the shed....?

I know I know.....but it was GLORIOUS!

I'd like to see someone else beside Kenny at the KOR position. He's fast only if he breaks it out in the open. Past few games he's looked hesitant on what he wants to do allowing the kicking team to get downfield.
It honestly might have to do more with his groin injury. He didn't look to be close to 100% in that game. I would like to see someone back there who isn't on our 1st team offense. Newby, if he can hold onto the ball and Alonzo Moore mabye?
How many fumbles did Newby have, out of curiosity? You seem to be harping on it quite a bit, yet I really don't remember all that many. I think I remember 2 lost, including the Michigan State one.

Also - in the games Newby had more than 1 carry, he had a 5.72 yard average. For some reason, possibly the fumbles?, after the first 6 games he went DNP, 1 carry, 1 carry, 1 carry, DNP, 1 carry. Anyway, there is no reason he shouldn't of gotten at least 4 carries a game. Ameer is good and all, but he gets tired. And yes Adam Taylor redshirted because he felt like he needed time to adjust his game and be mentally prepared for this level. He was a monster from what I hear.

If there is one thing about this staff I cannot stand, it is their reluctance to prepare for the future. We had no QB with in game experience and we have virtually no proven RB returning if Ameer doesn't come back. Even BAMA and Nicky Satan use true frosh RB's more than we do because he knows they will step in at some point to be a contributor.
I'd put that fumble on TA too, it was pretty far behind Newby on the option. Ameer woulda even had a hard time with that one.
If it hits your hands, its your job to bring it in, PERIOD. That is why these kids are on scholarship. I remember growing up and having coaches harp on us about this. "If it hits the palm of your hands (plural), its your job to bring it in". Its not like Newby was on a full sprint. He saw it coming, it hit his hands, he never pulled it in. You act like that ball was that far behind him and he had no chance in bringing it in. Just like the toss against Georgia. His to bring in and simply didn't get it done.

Newby, from what I can remember of, is at least 3. One in the Southern Miss game, Michigan State game and Georgia game. 54 carries, 3 fumbles. All I am stating is that he shows ball security issues and that could/can hurt him in position battle. Seems like every time we rely on him, he can't hold onto the ball.

@ 7:03 incase you really think that ball was that far behind him. He had both hands on it.
Last I knew Tommy is on scholarship too and it's his job to make a good pitch, or is it not? Could have Newby have caught it? He could have, but he is running pretty much full speed and has to turn his body. I thought it was a little farther behind him, so I guess after watching it again I would put it equally on TA and Newby.

And the shovel drop against UGA was an incomplete pass not an fumble.

It was good enough to be caught. What the hell has football turned into? It has to be a perfect pitch for another player to get, otherwise its the QB's fault? Armstrong had a LB bite on the option, a second away from making impact. He put the ball in Newby's hands. Armstrong did his job, Newby did not make an easy reception. Newby wasn't even at half speed when the pitch happened. Could the pitch have been better? Sure, but it was more than good enough.

I guess your standards for the pitch are lower then mine and that's fine, it your opinion. IMO, he should be it in front or at least on the body of the RB. Behind is not a good pitch in my eyes.

I never said it was perfect, nor good, just good enough. Not everything is going to be perfect, especially on the run and trying to make a defender bite or bust on the option. I watch Navy run the option and quite a few times the ball was delivered just like this. The only difference, their RB made the reception.

Newby will be fine. He has a very high ceiling and I'm really excited to see how he progresses. Is there much of a weight difference between when Abdullah was freshman and what Newby weighs now? I thought they were seen as very similar players, but that Newby was a little faster and Abdullah was a little bit better between the tackles.

Well you said TA "did his job", which I figured would be to deliver a good ball. But by your standards delivering a "good enough" ball is his job. My bad, just another personal preference opinion there. And as far as Navy goes, their two leading rushing RB's were a SR and a JR who have had 4/3+ years of catching that option pitch...I would hope they were a little more comfortable doing it. Remember I said in my post after the video that after watching the video that I thought Newby shared a equal amount of blame.

Just looked up a roster from 2011, it had Ameer at 177. On the roster for this year Newby is listed at 185

100% no way Harvey Jackson starts at safety next year. He fell to at least 4th, maybe 5th, this year...and that was without Singleton and Martinez in the mix. LeRoy and Coop deserving should be the starters fairly easily.
By "4th, maybe 5th" you of course mean 2nd string, right? That's where he was listed for the bowl game.

I was going off guys that played ahead of him. Coop, Leroy, Green all were ahead of him. And someone mentioned when Leroy got dinged up that CJax some some time. So on the depth chart I guess he was 2nd string, but he was the 4th or 5th safety in the rotation.

EDIT: Just checked out the depth chart. He was listed 2nd string with an "or" with Charles Jackson. So yes while he was "2nd string" he was still the 4th or 5th safety.

I thought you meant 4th or 5th STRING. 4th or 5th safety makes more sense.

Haha oh no not at all. My bad, should have specified better!

I don't care what anybody says - that pitch to newby in the msu game was not catchable. almost all of TA's option pitches are terrible. I don't know how ameer catches them, but it's nothing short of miraculous that he does. the pitch on the winning td in the the big house might have been the worst I have ever seen.

It was catchable but not a very good one. I kept waiting for AA to drop one against Michigan because they were all high, hard and behind him but he pulled them all in. TA's pitches in the bowl game were much better.
