2014 Starting Roster vs. FL Atlantic based on the Gator Bowl two-deep

Wow, Tommy has made some fantastic option pitches. Y'all be trippin'
I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but if not I will completely agree. One bad pitch against Michigan state, a pitch that should have been caught, does not equal all pitches were sh#t. Newby looked up field and started to run before he secured the ball. Other than that one, I thought Tommy executed the option like the QB's do the glory days.

Okay, maybe not that we'll, but pretty damn well.

I suspect if he is fully healthy, Trevor Roach will get some time at MLB. Also don't count out Jack Gangwish at DE.
With all due respect to Roach, we have one of the best young MLB'ers in the country in Rose. Gangwish on the other hand I could see getting a little time.

I was VERY impressed with how TA ran the option - decision making, fakes, keeps, etc. Was a little hesitant on a couple against Georgia but that was probably the first time all year he didn't run the play very well. But the actual pitches against Michigan and the one to Newby against Michigan State were not that good. We got away with it against Mich but it cost us against MSU. Not that Newby couldn't have still caught it, but it was a tough one to handle. Especially for two guys who hadn't worked together very much.

If the pitch to Newby is even with him or ahead of him like taught, Newby probably scores on th play against Sparty.. For all the, Beck haters that was a perfect call. Now the shovel pass against Georgia, that was on Newby looking upfield and arguably cost NU another score. another great call by Beck

I don't care what anybody says - that pitch to newby in the msu game was not catchable. almost all of TA's option pitches are terrible. I don't know how ameer catches them, but it's nothing short of miraculous that he does. the pitch on the winning td in the the big house might have been the worst I have ever seen.
That pitch in the Big house the worst you've seen? I love these cases where two people watching the same thing come to completely different conclusions. That pitch was masterful. There were 3 Michigan players between Tommy and the goal line that were focused purely on Abdullah. They were simply waiting for Tommy to pitch it to him. Tommy nearly pitched the ball but instead faked it and hesitated. He hesitated just long enough where specifically #57 for Michigan, and a couple other Michigan defenders, sucked in closer to Tommy. At that point, Abdullah had gone past Armstrong and Tommy pitched it forward perfectly. Tommy couldn't have played it any better than he did and I thought it was a great example of that playmaker ability he brings to the position. Can't wait to see more next season.
Newby's drop was "catchable" in that it was possible to be caught but it was a poor pitch.

I think the Michigan game was two separate sets of circumstances. The final TD play was a GREAT play by TA - and there was nothing wrong with that "pitch" (technically a pass). Prior to that, every one of his option pitches was high, hard and behind AA - basically the worst combination you can have for a pitch. I was very impressed that AA was able to come down with each one of them - it would have been very easy to drop one. Thus it didn't surprise me when TA came out the next game and did the same thing to Newby and he didn't come up with it.

In every pitch/pass and catch, there are two players that have to accomplish their task. Very seldom are both perfect. They have to help each other out. If the QB pitches/throws slightly off but it hits the receiver in the hands, the receiver needs to be helping out the QB by making the catch. If the WR didn't run the perfect route or didn't create separation from the DB, then the QB needs to throw it in a spot he can go get it and not the DB. It's a team sport.

It wasn't a perfect pitch but it was catchable. In that situation, both weren't on their game and the play failed.

Newby may have scored on the play anyway, if he'd just caught to begin with. That was opened up. And yes, that was a bright Beck'er. He does do a lot of good things and does come up with some good things, but let's not let them cover up the boneheaded things he does. As good of a job as he does, I think there's still a lot out there for him. I think he could do a lot better job, especially situationally.
