Pretty interesting series of events with the A's and Royals series this weekend in KC. To me Lawrie made no attempt on his slide to get the base and was after Escobar from the get on that. After that the Royals need to learn how to handle things better I believe. If Ventura hits Lawrie the 1st time he came up it was over and done with. Hitting him after a dude goes yard on you is a little cheap to me. Then yesterday was just wacky all around.
Yeah Ventura was obviously pissed he just got touched and decided to make the statement too late in the game. As for yesterday the Royals clearly got pissed that Cain got hit and they warned everyone when the Royals didn't get that courtesy the game before. Herrera is what obviously sent it over the top. He really shouldn't have thrown behind Lawrie I mean it was a freaking one run game when he did it. Herrera is a guy that runs on emotions, but that was too much.
That being said if the league was worried enough about collisions at home plate that they outlawed them then they should look to do the same at second. You wouldn't even need to write a new rule, just enforce the one on the books.
Lawrie clearly slid out of the base path with cleats up and the batter should of been called out as a result. Guys will stop pulling the BS slides if there is no benefit to breaking up the double play. Baseball shouldn't be about who can hit the other guy harder or the base paths or in the batter's box.
