***2018 Recruiting***

What is the difference of they offer the Spencer kid now or in June.  We struck out on our top targets this year and were not guaranteed to take a qb.  Kid is having a huge sr and we might have some room to offer him.   Of all of the issues our staff has, qb roster management might not even be on the first page.
This...We have been recruiting QBs all year.  The offer to Petras isn't earth shattering as we have been in his ear the whole time and wanted to see how his Sr. year goes before offering.

The difference is it is extremely likely that there would have been some other QBs that we would have gone after who would have come between the three Top 6 QBs we were recruiting and the #27 Qb who we are now after had we not taken several months off and lost our chance with other guys.

I agree that according to the sites this kid is down the list.  I would wait til the end of year ratings to really compare how much we missed out on kids rated between our top targets and Spencer.    I am betting Spencer moves up.

QB roster management is ALWAYS #1.  It's the single most important position on the field.

Maybe.. But it is definitely not our #1 issue.

Lee Sr

Bunch Jr

O'Brien So

Gebbia RS Fr

Cox RS Fr

Have 3 potential starters coming back next year with an emergency guy in Bunch.  Don't know how many more QBs we could have on the roster that fans can say should be playing over the starter.

Who is Cox?  Bunch is just practice player.

Recruiting a QB this year is not just about next year, its looking a couple years down the the road.  In today's CFB environment, you have to assume the loser of the Gebbia/POB duel is leaving.  So if we don't take a QB this year and Riley sticks around, in 2019 the chart could very well be:

Gebbia/POB in a loser leaves town battle

2019 QB recruit

And it could be even worse in 2018 if we don't take a QB, Lee leaves after this year because of a new coach/offense, and one of POB/Gebbia leaves after the other is declared the winner in the spring.  Although I would think the #1 priority of a new coach would be to get a QB signed.

If Lee leaves this year then we will be taking a QB in 2018 that would fit the scheme of our new HC.  Any QB that has been recruited up to this point might have been pointless anyways.  What if we brought in a stud 2018 kid and Gebbia and POB transfer.  Then our QB situation would be even worse than it would be without taking a QB.  You could play out scenarios all day if you want, but coaches missed on the top kids and they are using SR season tape to further evaluate any QBs they might want to take.  Our current QB room looks pretty good, but yes there are possible scenarios were it could kid troublesome.

Ohio St takes a QB every year

Clemson takes a QB every year

Alabama takes a QB every year

Georgia takes a QB every year

Michigan takes a QB every year

Nebraska kicks the tires.  Decides not to take one.  Then decides to take one.

It is flattering to be compared to those schools.  The 5 schools you mentioned can take just about anyone they want, at any position they want.  We are not in that position so not the best comparison.

The point is the best teams don't skip on that position.  They aren't indecisive.  They understand the importance of always having a QB in every recruiting class.

I thought the point was when we take a QB.  We can absolutely still take a very good QB in this class, but no it will not be one of the top rated QB's in the country.
