***2018 Recruiting***

I guess one thing I haven't considered is the possibility of not renewing a scholarship given to a walk-on.  I think Conrad is the only one who fits that description but it they can work the numbers on that it would be one more spot.   :dunno

 
Sounds like Callahan is kind of expecting them to (somewhat) go with @seaofred92's proposal: Don't sign Mapieu in February, unassumingly with the promise of a spot later on if/when he qualifies.  I suppose they could try that with Smith as well but that might not sell as well, especially with how adamant he's been about signing in February.

So that would mean we could still have 4 spots left (with Smith signing) with spots "saved" for Mapieu and Vedral.  Which means we could have (need) five guys to leave by fall and still be at the full 85.

 
We currently have 19 commits plus two transfers.  We could sign 22/23/24 depending on whether Mapieu and Smith actually sign.

  • For sure one OL - possibility of two but unlikely: Bell -> McDonald -> Sampson
  • Really want an OLB: JJB would probably be our first choice -> Tannor maybe a second choice but still would be a great get -> Baldonado
  • Really seems like we're looking for another RB: Washington -> Henry -> Bryant?
  • Probably another DB: Jones seems to really interested -> Taylor/Torain
  • Tago an option but not a priority (IMO)

Using the class calculator and going through your best case scenarios.  I took out Mapieu and added Bell, JJB, Washington and Jones.

This puts us at 18th.

If we would end up there with a coaching change, that would be a hell of a job well done.

 
Basically if you take the 19 commits at face value that they are going to ALL be on scholarship, that gives Nebraska 84 players currently with scholarships.  So they should be able to go after 4 more to get to the 88.

The staff really seems like they want 1 more WR in this class as well. 

 
I can't make this math work out with the number of spots we have vs. number of recruits we are still pursuing. There has to be something happening we don't know about, right?

Wondering if this is in relation to the Tyjon stuff or if someone might not be able to qualify-- Woodyard?

Seems weird we seem to be going after more WR's, so maybe its at that position?
