In a moment of truth, Nebraska seeks to turn tough talk into tangible progress
Early in this offseason, Nebraska coaches and players identified a single characteristic that, if achieved and maintained, could boost them to a level not consistently reached in many years at Memorial Stadium.
“I think coaches need to demand toughness,” Scott Frost said. “But it better come out of the locker room or you’re not really going to have a tough team.”
It sounds cliché for Frost, the third-year coach, to discuss the importance of toughness, like another talking point on the shelf of spring or summer buzzwords. Up next: focus and repetition, then urgency. How are the Huskers supposed to attach meaning to something as abstract as a call for toughness while the 2020 calendar devolves into a montage of disappointment and delays?
Yet with this team at this time, somehow it resonates.
