Did we even wear the away blackshirt uniforms last year? I can't remember.
I feel like we did but I cannot remember what game it was.....

So out of those four two of them were throwbacks. Nothing wrong with that but takes basically no creativity on their part.
That's been my complaint. The best ones are the ones they really didn't have to do anything to come up with. I agree with your other two choices but it's been more miss than hit when they haven't just copied something from the past.
They call that convenience amnesia :lol:I feel like we did but I cannot remember what game it was.....
As long as they have a background tire tread motive…..or corn cobs, I’m good.I will fight every single one of you in defense of the 2013 alternates.
Personally I think the last few years Adidas has really nailed it.
The Blackshirt ones were great and appropriately simple, the '97 throwbacks looked great and clean, the 2018 OLD school throwbacks were divisive but I loved them, and the 2016 aways at Northwestern while busy and cheap looking were pretty decent.

For referenceI agree but I don't treat it as a knock.
Our program identity is old school, nose to the ground, humble but proud hard work and isn't flashy. Flashy uniforms don't make sense for us, so the best creative decisions are the ones to keep it simple, then focus all the energy on good execution of the simple idea.
2012 - sucked, cheap and shiny and bad design elements
2013 - good idea, ruined by the busy-ness of the tire tread era
2014 - pure garbage
2015 - pure garbage
2016 - good design, good look, still poor material presentation with the duct tape esque striping and arbitrary cuts
2017 - simple, but great
2018 - great (imo, i know not everyone liked it)
2019 - simple, but great - what 2013 should have been
2020 - simple, but great
I see the last 4 years as similar to Ohio State's alternates. Rarely trying to redesign many elements, more mostly focusing on good color schemes.
Off season is now much closer to being complete.
To add to this, the only time the national anthem should be played before a game is when a national team is playing. Doesn't matter the sport, but playing or someone singing the anthem before every single game from high school on up is cheesy. Its another step in pandering people's patriotism.I don't disagree, but I absolutely hate the fake "patriotism" that "USA alternate uni's" bring. I hate it when MLB does it for Memorial Day/4th of July. It's lame when Northwestern has a stars and stripes N on their helmet. It's dumb when the NFL has their coaches wear militarized gear on the sidelines in November. It's just lame overall and pandering to people's own sense of patriotism.
