2021 Coaching Carousel

Has been a crazy carousel. When I had mentioned Cristobal, people thought that would never happen. I didn’t see the Riley and Kelly moves. We need to get our moves done soon. This poker game is not for weak hands.

I agree and when there is chaos with the HC spot it trickles down to the staff too which means Frost and company need to have their ducks in a row with locking down our offensive staff.

I bet you are.  :laughpound

If we do move on from Frost next year. I think we need to be prepared to make some big moves like we have seen this cycle. Throw some money out there to steal a successful P5 coach from another program.

In the past it was always- who is available. Based on this year it is who cares who is available. It is "who do we want" then go steal them.

Wow, crazy that coaches are getting jettisoned after like 1 bad year and they no longer even wait until the end of the season!  Is Sark next?

The argument that Nebraska is changing our coach too quickly or early now looks silly and is a losing argument.  I am on board on our move to retain Frost. I truly hope he succeeds.  But we could have gone a different direction, each program needs to do what is right for them. Now it is our job to go out and get the best position coaches possible. And yes that means reaching out to the Herman’s and Mullen’s.  If these guys say no and are waiting for another head coaching gig, so be it. But sometimes people get the top job and maybe don’t want it again. They may want to get paid for what they truly are good at and enjoy, coaching QB’s or putting together an offense. Will be interesting to see!

Bleacher Report (you can judge how credible they are) reports that with Cristobal heading to Miami, Oregon's first choice is to go all in on Chip Kelly to come back.

Is this correct?  22% of all P5 coaches have moved?

And how bizarre is it that not one Big Ten coach moved on?
Many would argue NU needed a change more than any. Two consecutive 3 win seasons at Nebraska!   About as bad as any that made changes.  Some had coaches poached of course and were not really wanting a change.  Nobody stole Frost yet for some reason?

Fun fact for your day. The coach with the highest all-time winning percentage in all of FBS is *still* Tom Osborne. He has a .836 win %. The next closest is, of course, Nick Saban. To catch Osborne's %, Saban would have to win the next 74 games in a row.

Who would we rather have at OC?

Sark or Mullen?

It’s a step backwards, and no coach wants to do that. If you want a former HC for OC you’d have to get someone like RichRod. Solid OC but not a good HC.
It's also a one year gig.

Play your cards right and you are the next head coach of Nebraska.

Why the hell would they want him back. I get that he may not leave again but his system doesn’t work anymore

Not be a jerk, but you can understand why they reached out to him.

Before taking Ohio State job he emphatically said that Notre Dame is always his #1 dream job.  And he coached WRs at ND for 4 years before getting his first HC job at BG.

Plus the irony, that when Meyer says he's not interested, he usually means the opposite lol.

Exactly. He'll be under the golden dome by Christmas.

I feel like Trev standing pat wasn't what a lot of people wanted, but it may have been the most shrewd move with all of the turnover.

Save $12 million in buyout, don't get stuck with a "meh" coach (Riley), and you have the option to reset next year if Frost can't make it work.

Totally agree, but in another way Trev didn't stand pat. He made it clear that major changes need to be made, and assured Scott Frost that his seat was red hot.
