2021 Recruiting Notes

I honestly don't know what is more surprising at this point- that Miles is recruiting for class of 2021 already or that he went to Omaha to do so

2021 Bellevue West guard Chucky Hepburn:

He was dominant for Team Factory 15U in its first game of the weekend. He scored 18 points, dished six assists and had five steals. He finished the weekend scoring 35 points in Factory’s bracket championship game. Hepburn can be special. He takes over games on both ends at times. The great ones do it consistently. At only age 15, there obviously is time to learn.

2021 Millard North wing Hunter Sallis:

Two weekends in a row, Sallis lands on the top-performer list. He was a consistent producer all weekend for OSA 15U Gauntlet. He has good length and uses it well defensively. I will say again: Sallis is a player with big upside and is not close to a finished-product.

2021 Elkhorn South guard Preston Murphy:

Murphy didn’t lead the team in scoring every game — not required from your point guard. What you do want is for your point to be cerebral. Murphy has that covered. He has a good feel for the game at such a young age and showed that he can attack when needed. Most importantly, he gets his teammates involved. In a close game against Stackhouse Elite, Murphy had 10 assists — almost unheard of in an AAU game.

2021 Omaha Burke guard Jaren Marshall:

Marshall is versatile and can play at the point or shooting guard. He’s a plus shooter who can score the 3 or in traffic. Still, his best attribute might be his mid-range jumper. In Team Factory 15U’s bracket championship game, Marshall scored 12 points in the game’s final 10 minutes.

The class is heavy with guards. Hepburn played the biggest role of any in the class. Elkhorn South’s Preston Murphy picked up his second Division I offer on Monday when UNLV offered the 6-footer. Murphy received an offer from Buffalo last summer.

Omaha Burke’s Jaren Marshall could end up being the best shooter in the class and started a handful of games for Millard North before transferring in the middle of the season.

Nebraska's 2021 high school basketball class already has more players with Division I scholarship offers than the 2020 class.

Is it cyclical or is the 2021 class is that special? I think it is more of the latter.

2021 is headlined by three players with Division I offers. Elkhorn South point guard Preston Murphy was the first to receive an offer when Buffalo offered him before his freshman season. UNLV offered Murphy in April.

The second player to receive an offer was Hunter Sallis (Millard North) when Drake offered on May 1. An offer from the SEC was next for Sallis when Mississippi offered on August 2.

Chucky Hepburn established himself as a force early in his high school career. Hepburn scored 40 points in his seventh career game for the T-birds. Nebraska was the first to offer Hepburn a scholarship on May 29.

If player rankings came out today, those three would be at the top of the class.
