2022 World Cup

That will always be the US' biggest challenge.  The athlete needed to do that is already riding the bench on a football or basketball team and not realizing he could be a star on the pitch.
We need another McBride.  We thought we had that in Altidore but then we realized Jozy was just lazy and could only play the ball if it was right to him.

Yeah, we do, and that starts at the youth level, and we need those type of athletes to play soccer as well as football and basketball.   Too many of the great athletes, that could move the US from top 30 in the world to top 10 in the world, only play football and basketball and end up being practice players only.   Get some of these great athletes that can't shoot jumpers or can't catch a pass on the pitch and teach them the game, we can beat the likes of Holland and England etc and be in the mix for semi-finals and not like teams like Florida Gulf Coast where it's a miracle run and never heard from again.

It will happen now that we have the MLS teams building up kids like they do in other countries.  I can't even watch the MLS myself but they are starting to build a foundation we hadn't had previously and taking a play out of the Bundesliga and EPL, that should help but it's still a young foundation.  These kids will get a good start and hopefully move up and out to the EPL, Bundesliga, Series A etc and get a real footy background because as of yet the MLS is not it.

But it still takes the Jimmys and the Joes.   We have a lot of great skill on the team right now, For the most part US Soccer isn't even getting our B level athletes in the country.    If more of our better athletes start and not just playing football and basketball only, and that's the difference with US Soccer adn the rest of the world.  Most countries the best athletes are playing soccer early and growing in the sport.   US needs a way to attract better athletes at a younger age.   Once we get them, we can develop the skills, but need to get figure out a way to get them

MLS doesn't pay like the Euro leagues and NFL, MLB and NBA comes close.

What I'm saying is the US is not getting our best athletes for soccer.   If we can just improve our athletes, we can improve our chances.   For the most part our player development is good, it's just we aren't getting good enough players.   That'll be the way we take the next step, get the athletes to think about soccer as an option and not just football and basketball.

The problem in the Netherlands game wasn’t that we were less athletic. All 3 goals came because we weren’t tracking runners. Those fall on Adams/Dest/Robinson. All 3 are great athletes. A lack of awareness/laziness did us in. We had plenty of great chances difference is the Dutch fished theirs and we didn’t.

Need more depth. Our guys were running a marathon in these games and by the end they were cooked. Our biggest needs right now are defensive midfielders and wingers that can stretch the field. The drop off after Adams is huge. Our only true wingers are Weah and Pulisic.

BTW it’s been rumored Berhalter is leaving. His contract is up at the end of the year. Be interesting to see who gets brought in. Bright future for this team. This is not a golden generation.

Yes, seems like since the days of Arenas the back 4 has been questionable at best

And my point to getting good athletes, in soccer, the US doesn't get the cream of the crop or even near the top, for the most part in terms of athletes in the country.  Every other country will get cream of the crop.  If the US can improve that, we can be mentioned as serious contenders to win the Cup.   Right now, the best we can hope for is to advance to knock out stage and maybe once in awhile to the quarterfinals.

Messi, Lewa, Neymar all wouldn’t be considered cream of the crop athletes by an American standard. Sure, elite athleticism can push a player over the top as in like Alphonso Davies or Mbappe, but you still need that technical ability.

2026 the US will be a great team assuming we have a good coach. The depth is growing.

Ive always said that the US could dominate world soccer if we had 80-90% of our athletes play soccer instead of football, basketball and baseball.
