** 2023 Opponent Preview : Iowa (Game 12) **

The question will be do they want to use firing Brian as a way to get rid of Kirk because if son goes, I am sure dad goes.  I am really not sure if an interim AD will make this call and I am not sure if it is the correct call heading into the new Big 10.  Damn if I would want to be the head coach listening to the student section chanting stuff about my kid though.  That has got to be hard.
I imagine Kirk copes with that like this

Scoring wise our offense is worse by 3 ppg overall and 4 ppg vs P5.  Both have played 3 P5 teams and 2 others.  Both have played one top 10 opponent.

Our offense is a dumpster fire, no doubt. But if we are isolating it to offense, those numbers could be adjusted. They have a defensive touchdown and a special teams touchdown, which drops them down to 0.6 ppg better. And their kicker is 8/9 while our is 1/4, despite no 50+ yard attempts. So basically a wash points wise when limited to the offense, their defense and special teams are helping them. And not just in the field position sense, actually contributing points.

The fact that the points are basically even is not something to brag about, by any means. But they are also averaging 4.3 yards per play, which is second worst in the entire country ahead of Sam Houston State. We're averaging 5.8, which is slightly below middle of the pack. We need to figure out how to turn the yards into points (maybe stop turning it over and start making field goals), they need to figure out.. just about everything.

Iowa’s scoring figures include at least 2 defense/special teams TD’s, so NU and Iowa’s offenses are about as equally inept.
Very true.  That plus our turnovers equals the difference in record so far.  Somehow they still manage to win games at a high rate.

And as has been mentioned before.  This is year 15+ of their offense, and year one of ours.
They still win a lot of games, which is both amazing and disgusting all at once!

I like it that our defense is good at stopping the run.
