2023 Season Notes

Interesting notes:

  • Huskers defense was very good but actually not quite as good as 2022.  Opponents' hitting percentage up slightly to .137 after being .128 last year.  Blocks per set also slightly down (2.69 vs 2.77).
  • I'm not saying Choboy is as good as Rodriguez but I've been saying she's right there.  Choboy averaged 1.82 digs per set.  Rodriguez averaged 3.60.  But Rodriguez played six rotations to Choboy's three.  Choboy's numbers would project to 3.64 per set at six rotations.  Not too shabby.
  • Huskers were #301 in the country (out of 332) in aces per set.  Ouch.
  • Murray led the team in aces after struggling with the new serving technique they were having her change to early in the season.
  • Hitting percentage made a big jump this year: .273 vs 2.44 last year.  Up from #64 in the country to #22.
  • Krause led in hitting percentage from the outside.  Not having her in the Final Four really hurt.


 
The Husker turned a revenue of $6,572 during the 2023 fiscal year, the Omaha World-Herald reported. Volleyball Day in Nebraska in Memorial Stadium occurred two months after the 2023 report date, so NU will earn far more in 2024.

During the 2022 Fiscal Year, Nebraska was the only women’s team that turned a profit out of 522 NCAA women’s athletics programs at the 53 public Power 6 schools, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.

Iowa women’s basketball, arguably one of the most popular women’s athletics teams at the moment, lost $778,959 during the 2023 fiscal year.
