** 2024 Opponent Preview : Colorado (Game 2) **

Colorado can get chunks of yards in a hurry.

But we held them to 56 yards on their first five drives last year.  Before our QB decided he'd like it better if he gave them the ball.

We have our work cut out for us.  But - like others have said - we can do a lot of things similar to what NDSU did tonight.  We just need to be a bit better than that.  Which is attainable.

I don't think the two-QB system by NDSU was that successful tonight.
I believe the starter got dinged up a few times so the backup (former Omaha Westside QB) came in. Did an admirable job all things considered.

NDSU was just a step or two slow, but nothing to be ashamed of with that performance. The Buffs have some DUDES at about 3 positions, otherwise the team is largely mediocre at best. Pressure on the QB will be critical next week, but I like our outlook at this point.

Honest question, when is the last time we easily covered a P5 team OOC?
9-7-24  :D

C’mon give me this. If we can’t be cocky before game 1, when can we?

Seriously though, just need to be slightly improved on offense, which seems highly likely considering we didn’t even have a QB last year. And the D  just needs to be almost as good as last year and a scosche better than NDSU. Doesn’t seem like a bridge too far.

We haven't made a bowl in 7 years.  We are not the benchmark for good.  Who cares?

Honest answer: that has exactly zero bearing on the game next week.
Holy crap you two are wet blankets.
@JJ Husker said easy cover, it got me thinking and I asked the question as I honestly wondered. How about you both relax and enjoy some banter.

Oh for sure, I was seriously curious about the last time.

I mean I know it’s been 20 years but this thing is going to turn around at some point. I don’t think anything that has happened prior to last year has any bearing whatsoever on what happens going forward. And really, not even last year has much to do with it. It would be virtually impossible for us to be as ineffective on offense as we were last year. Bad miss on Sims and no plan B. Yeah it’s now a freshman QB and some likely growing pains but at least it’s an actual real QB we’re dealing with. That alone will make a huge difference imo.

The thing I keep thinking about is... either the recruiting services are horribly wrong about Nebraska every year since the dawn of time, or we continue to have top 25 talent almost every year. At some point you'd think we would actually become a top 25 team again. It's not like we have a bunch of 2 stars and we're hoping for a miracle. We need a good coaching staff.

Needed. I’m thinking we finally got it. Lord knows Callahan, Riley and Frost weren’t it.

But just look at last year and imagine the huge difference even a halfway reasonable ability to throw the ball would have made. It literally could’ve changed the outcome of 4-5 games. I don’t think we have to change very much at all to make a huge leap.

NDSU was a better coached team. I don’t think they turned the ball over once. There was maybe one or two series that they had a some stupid penalties, but that tends to happen if your not as athletic as the other team.

Sanders is much better when he being chased around in the backfield. Gives them 5* wideouts time to get free.  And he is never out of a play.

I didn't like our end of game management last year and sometimes it felt like it was the coaches' fault, however, if we get better, we should have fewer down to the wire games.

I would agree but it can be difficult to manage the clock with one arm of your offense tied behind your back. That may not explain all of the time issues but I don’t think the ability to throw the ball can be underestimated. It frees up more of the playbook, gets some D hats out of the box, basically makes the whole offense more viable. We should definitely find out this season if there are legitimate coaching issues or if it was a more player based problem. Everything I saw last year leads me to believe it was more of a QB and WRs issue.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that good defenses are going to put up double digit sack counts on the team I just watched.

He gets hype as a future NFL QB, but he holds onto the ball way too long for that. A lot of those scrambles he had tonight would've been sacks against a team with P4-level athletes, let alone NFL.
