** 2024 Opponent Preview : Illinois (Game 4) **

Stats and rankings don't mean anything. Half the team is gonna need to come out ready to play this week, unlike last week. Spread the word,...Everybody, no taking the week off!

Honestly looking back at last year and Illinois was the inverse of Northern Iowa last week. Moved the ball “well” with short to intermediate routes and converted a lot of plays when they needed it. They still came up short most drives and didn’t get points. Heinrich actually threw the ball well to start the game and we created enough distance that we reasonably controlled the game for a win. Last year’s team added their flair of trading turnovers when we could have nailed the coffin shut, but we haven’t seen that this year at this point.

I think last year’s Illinois had a better shot at beating us and got the results they did. I wouldn’t be surprised by another 24 to 31 - 7-13 type of win. Altmyer will basically have to be flawless to give them a real chance and Dylan will need to have a true freshman type of game.

I get you! You’re saying the 2nd half team needs to play like the first half team because we have two separate teams that play in one game. Yes?

Just listened to a game analysis from an impartial person.  I thought it was pretty fair just the guy went a little too much by stats as he was comparing position groups and such.  He spoke on how Altmyer has a better QBR than Dylan probably  because he has an extra TD and no INT (he did say DR is a better QB).  He also gave the edge to IL wr core stating their TD and reception stats.  They have a few more yards and a few more TDs.  What he never mentioned was that neither our QB or WR have played a full 3rd quarter and have yet to play in a 4th quarter.  I do think these teams match up well but IL could only muster 13 points of offense against Kansas who was giving IL plenty of opportunities with turnovers and I don't think Kansas has as good a defense as Nebraska.  I could see this as a slug fest for a quarter or two and then Nebraska pulling away

I feel Nebraska passes the eye test more than Illinois, and is better than the stats indicate, unless the 2nd half "problem" is a real problem that lasts for the entire season regardless of the score. I think we will beat Illinois by more than 14 points.

I'm hoping that the second half problems are because Nebraska is running the plays that don't work in practice as well against our defense to see if they work in games.  Also giving other defenses new stuff to have to prepare for even tho they won't be staple plays.  I think Rhule is playing a good game of chess.  Its a luxury he has this year he didn't have last year.  Hard to run plays you know didn't work well in practice when you are in a shootout or playing from behind.

OK...what is "eckel"?

Why does it seem like everyone is talking a different language than me this morning?

I believe it is a drive that gets inside the opponent's 40 yard line - basically into scoring position.  So points per eckel would be how many points you score per dives that you get inside the opponents 40.
