** 2024 Opponent Preview : Iowa (Game 12) **

Good ol' fashion Post-Thanksgiving-Day game with some super cold weather.

Should be a battlefield on the ground within the trenches.  With some punts and play-clock burning.

What a crappy thing to do to your team.  I get opting out of bowls sort of, but not even finishing the year? Come on man, be a better teammate.

Probably just tired of being accused of robbing gas stations every time he wears a team-issued hoodie to weightlifting. I don't like to see it general, but I'll take it because he's pretty darn good.

We need to tackle better than we have in a while. And it feels like every game we have a few stunts into (or out of) the wrong playcall and get gashed. IMO you've gotta play this mostly straight up, because they are really good at punishing defenses that misfit basic zone runs. They are going to try and run it 50+ times again and only make Stratton throw a handful of short throws and a shot or two. Maryland just couldn't make them throw the ball.

I'm too lazy to do the research, but does anyone know how good is Iowa's pass rush? If they struggle to get to Raiola and their best CB is no longer playing, it could really set up the passing game and offense as a whole for another really solid game.

A little below their norm, pretty average by the numbers. They don't have an Epenesa or anything like that but they're solid. It's still a very good defense, but they aren't truly elite this year - giving up a 6% higher completion percentage, almost 30 more passing yards per game, and ~1 yard per carry more than they have the past couple of years. But they still take the ball away like almost nobody else.

Thank you! Due to the weather and the fact that Iowa is always solid on defense I dont expect an offensive explosion but IF the huskers can put up an offensive performance similar to what we saw against Wisconsin I like our chances

I am hoping with an offense that is this one dimensional we can stop the run fairly well.  We haven't been good on defense recently, but no recent team has been quite like Iowa in what they can/want to do and what they cannot do well.

Looking at the Iowa/Maryland box score, Iowa's new QB went 10/14 for 76 yards (5.4 ypa, not good) and 0 TDs/INTs.  Looks like he had 1 rush for 2 yards and was sacked once for -10 yards.

Iowa also ran 71 plays, which is the most they ran this year.  57 runs vs 14 passes, basically a 80/20 split.  They averaged 4.78 ypp vs Maryland, which was their 3rd worst output of the year.

Johnson had 164 yards on the ground, but with 35 carries!  His longest run was 13 yards and he averaged 4.7 ypc.  The backup Moulton went 12 for 114, including a 68 yarder.
