** 2024 Opponent Preview : Wisconsin (Game 11) **

Maybe they'll be in a state of disarray.....Del Rio arrested, Longo fired.....Come off their game almost beating Oregon like we did almost beating Ohio St.  Hoping that Dana points out even dumber stuff we continue to do like clock management.....Works on passing game and expands running attack.

Obviously it didn't make a huge difference in the final numbers for our offense, but people here are mostly pissed Fickell didn't fire Longo when we fired Satt. They had a struggling offense and a bye week before playing Oregon, even if you're just promoting someone from within the time to do that is before Oregon. Keeping him for that game and then firing him right after feels like expecting to lose and wanting a change to announce in the aftermath.

I like Fickell in general, but I am more convinced he would not have been the right hire for Nebraska. The media people and fans over here are not super aggressive, and it's still getting to him. Curious if he caves to the wishes of a loud segment of their fanbase and tries to go back old school offensively this offseason, which I think would be a mistake. The Air Raid ain't it in the Big Ten, but trying to pull a 180 two years in could be really rough.

So .... not good that we just hired a long-time Air Raid disciple as our new OC?

It's not my favorite thing, no. But I think Holgorsen has a couple things over Longo here - experience (specifically as a head coach), skill talent, and a QB. We're not Ohio State by any means but we've got some talented guys at WR. Wisky got a good one in Pauling, but they really haven't been able to bring in or develop anyone else. And the hand-picked transfer QBs didn't work out great, even before they got hurt. I know Raiola has had his struggles, but I'm willing to chalk that up to being a true freshman running a very complicated offense that clearly hasn't been coached perfectly.

So I'm optimistic Holgorsen can do better here than Longo did at Wisconsin but I'm skeptical we're going to light the Big Ten on fire. I am of course wildly unqualified to make any judgements about offensive schemes, so who knows.

Rankings-wise, the teams are actually pretty close. Both are around like #30 on defense and #95 on offense. And of course, both have replaced their OCs in the last few weeks.

I decided to close my sportsbook account, and currently only have profits in there, about $50.  I threw it all on Wisconsin.  It is a win/win.  I either double my money and close out, or the universe says "screw you!" and we get Nebraska bowl eligible.

So if we win, you are all welcome!
