*** 2025 Recruiting ***

Fwiw, I really like Jones. Mid 3-star on the composite but a high 3-star by 247. Feels about right. Did we beat Notre Dame, Missouri, and/or Wisconsin for his commitment? No. But Louisville’s primary recruiter for him is Ron English who has a good reputation and a long career. Solid recruiting win even if we feel we should always win that battle. Good size for a hybrid safety/LB.

Do you actually believe they have a worse geographical base to recruit from? Just because people say something doesn’t mean it’s true.

Who said worse? Worse than who?

They do have a comparatively poor talent pool to recruit from locally compared to their top 5-10 ranked peers, though.

I would say the 3 star kids he has taken generally are great track athletes with high end speed. So maybe need development in football so they don’t have the ratings of a polished football player but their ceiling is high. I believe Oregon used that same model in their building years before their recruiting took off after the Ws piled up
Taking track athletes isn't a new or novel approach. It's not like other coaches have ignored track stars.

Rhules strategy is to identify athletic players that fit a size profile the staff desires. Their plan is to take as many of these kids as possible and at least a few will turn out to be good players.

In the past, roster limitations made this strategy risky. But at least for the moment, Nebraska can take a many of these kids as our NIL collective is willing to pay for. It's a coordinated effort. Will it work? I'm not sure. But Nebraska needs to find more talented players and not take every kid within 800 miles who has a modicum of potential.
