5 LB's vs Northwestern?

For my money, I'd rather stay in the base 4-3 and put Martin in for Meredith at DE. I think it'd be interesting to also then switch out Fisher and Whaley for Santos and Corey Cooper. I know that Cooper is only listed at 210...but I'd like to see the speed on the field.

Dunno about using 5 lbs without burning redshirts, but DEFINITELY need to shake up the Compton-Whaley-Fisher starting trio. That trio has sucked much of the year. Keep Compton in the middle to stuff runs between the tackles, but we desperately need SPEEEEEED on the edges. What the hell has happened to Santos, who we heard so much about in the offseason? And I think we've already played the freshman Rose once, so why not use him more? Are we just gonna waste his potential redshirt year but playing him in only a handful of plays like we did with Quincy Enunwa??

I don't think we have played Rose since he was given a red shirt. I could very well be wrong about that, but Santos has been switched with Whaley, but not as often as I thought, but Whaley has been covering pretty well.

I'd load the box and bring someone every stinking play.......kinda like BO did when he was DC at LSU, had a ton of different blitz packages......

They need 3 three things. They need to be football smart (they need to know where the ball is and where it is going), they need to tackle well, and they need to be fast.

If this was MSU, I could see a line of logic for 5 LBs. But NW is a smaller, make you miss in space team. They are not going to line up in the I and ram it down our throat with a fullback lead block. I would prefer to see more speed players, CBs and Ss on the field than more LBs.

Pelini says we aren't executing the defense he has taught some of these guys for 5 years! All the talk of simplifying and now some want us to run a defense we have never run before! My head hurts!

QB contain/spy, is one of the most effective ways to stop a mobile QB. Manti Te'O has completely shut down each dual threat QB they have played against this year, just by staying in coverage and always staying with the QB. Not only has he shut them down, he has gotten a couple interceptions as well. Now comparing Manti Te'O to our LB's is not close, but the concept and same effects can be done. Its just a deal, does Pelini want to give in on, and start doing what he doesn't do?
