9 pinned topics?

I realize I'm kinda new here..And I'm Not complainin'

Just wonderin' out loud (assuming your speakers are turned on).

But I almost break a nail every time I open the evil Foosball section and roll my index finger over my mouse wheel as fast as I can so I can skip the pinned threads That don't ever seem to get new posts.

Any way of giving them their own sub forum like the rumor partition? or at least a solid border separating them from the hot and exciting new threads?

Again..best board on the interwebs...And not suggesting we fix something that ain't broke...just..trying to change things!

you're right - 9 is a freaking lot. Hm...not sure what to do at first glance but I think some of those could be pruned down or combined. I'll take a closer look later and offer more of an opinion, ha. Thanks for the tip, 37. Page down's faster than mouse wheel by the way, in the meantime.

Speakin' of searching for the page down key..I'm on my 2nd or 3rd black keyboard and having to type some of these letters from memory 'cause my fat fingers have pretty much erased the white letters on some of these keys..("R"."A"."S" are completely missing)..And if there were a pause button, I'm sure that'd be missing from all the porn I used to peek at hear about..Wish there were some place I could get storebought letters.

I've made some myself before by typing out the missing letters, cutting them out with a hole punch, tapeing the backs and fronts, gluing them to the keys..and repeating evey two months..Guess I should splurge and spend the $5 for the replacement keyboards at ASU Surplus.

For the pinned topics..I think the best (easiest) fix would be the border thing.

Newbies could still stumble over them, and others could focus their eyes south of the border right away..Hey! I wonder if Sherif Joe knows about this?

 
Ha ha! I just came to this forum to start a thread on this very topic. Perhaps a "pinned topic" subforum would reduce the clutter a bit?

Anyway, great job guys! Damn fine board this is.

 
I like the idea of a sub-forum a lot. However, it won't reduce the scrolling - in fact, it would increase it as it would add space to the top of the page.

Another option - I think we're about done with conference expansion for a year or two. Is it time to close that down for now? We can actually hide it, and bring it back when expansion heats up. Then, have a sub-forum for the pinned topics.

Thoughts? What do the members think will work best?

Might be a tad early to shut down the conference expansion section..I notice there's 10 threads that have been posted to in the last two days, and there are quite a few regulars that seem to be taking a break from posting..Might be useful for them when they start to wander back.

I just got asked about it yesterday by another Husker fan I ran into so it seems to still be on a few people's mind even out here in PAC10 country.

About the pinned threads, I sometimes wonder what the intended purpose of them are.

They can be useful, but usually only once..any way to combine or merge them into a couple of main categories? (like "Historical notes", "Members pointers", "FAQs")?

 
Just an idea here, may not be the best since the majority of people that sign up do so for the football side of things.. But make a subforum for introductions and how to work your way around the site.. you could put the introduce yourself, the nebraska tradition (since its geared towards our new big 10 members), and the how to use the ignore function over there. I'm guessing the 2010 HB sched n watchsites will be unpinned soon, since it just went up thursday, and it's good for people to see.

As a matter of fact, we're discussing a number of options and possible reorganizations - and that's one of them. I can't say that we'll do anything for certain, but hang tight - we could have some changes in the relatively near future.

 
I agree. HB completely rocks. Main forum has way too many pinned topics. You're pretty much on page 2 before you get to the updates.

 
I think the intro could stand to be moved to the BS forum. Schedule wallpaper in the AV Club, as well as the banner contest (is that over yet?) And this might sound a teeny bit odd but the ==Nebraska Tradition== could go to conference expansion, seeing as that was the forum that triggered it.
