Actual Spring Practice Updates

According to Sipple while ZoMoore isn't practicing full speed he must be at least doing drills.

"Alonzo Moore hasn't practiced full-go yet this spring because of a shoulder issue. But he looks very close to full speed."

I heard on the radio that Josh Mitchell has been a real leader out there, holding others accountable and not afraid to speak up. Awesome to hear. I like this guys attitude.
This is definitely true! This kid has an attitude this year, and I love it. He has an interview out there saying how he isn't afraid to tell kids that they are messing up, what they are messing up, and he wants them to do the same if he is slipping. He stated he doesn't yell, because that isn't his job. He isn't the "yelling" type lol.

Jordan Westerkamp said the punt return teams have been working on some scheme adjustments to try and provide more blocking for those returning punts. Westerkamp said Ameer Abdullah, Brandon Reillyand Terrell Newby have all been working with the punt return units.

I've also read Charles Jackson and Jamal Turner were working there today too.

Among #Huskers returning punts Monday were Charles Jackson, Westerkamp, Jamal Turner and walk-on Jordan Nelson of Omaha Burke. Tryouts ...

That is obviously a stock image as it doesn't look 20 years old and thus we would never use it.
I'm curious if we get some newer balls this year. I wonder if that was a Martinez thing (dang, broke my own rule) and if the new set of QBs have different preferences.
I am about 90% certain that the balls we have been using weren't "old", just extremely worn. They have buffers or sanders to wear down new balls straight out of the package and different quarterbacks like their footballs to feel different ways.

But it's not just a Martinez thing. Zac Taylor liked his footballs worn like that too. Looks like Zac Lee did as well:
Yeah, sloppy terminology on my part.

I know most like them broken in pretty well but ours are about as extreme as I've ever seen.

Wasn't Mitchell one of the guys getting after VV last spring on Twitter (and other places I'm sure)?

Actually, it sounds like the footballs they're using now aren't nearly as worn down as they have been. Might not have just been a Martinez thing but it sounds like it's not a Armstrong/Stanton/Fyfe thing.

Josh Mitchell has the heart and mindset to be a champion and an elite player

I hope it translates to his on-the-field performance. It's impossible not to root for the kid.

@J_Mitch05: The offense finally won in a team drill today so ull probably see them on twitter tonight lol
Ameer Abdullah@Ameerguapo 21s

@J_Mitch05 you gotta catch those.... Smh

Sounds like Mitchell had another pick today but could have had a couple more.
Haha nice! The kid wants to prove to be the best corner in the conference this year and has stated it a few times. From my understanding, him and Ameer have been working out a lot together and helping each other improve

I hope he does come out on fire, proves that his size won't be a factor next season.

Enough talk about how worn balls are. You guys have played sports before, right? As with pretty much all bballs, footballs, baseballs, etc they are slick in the beginning, and then as they get worn they get tacky and just the way you want them, and then they eventually get past that point to where they are too slick again. Its been this way for years. I dont understand why this seems like such a hard to underdstand thing all of a sudden. Off soap box.

Seen: Quarterback Johnny Stanton making a good read on a zone option play, zooming around left end untouched for a touchdown.
OWH

Pretty small sample size but it seems like TA is running more regular option and Stanton running more zone read. I thought it was interesting that the zone read has been a staple in our offense for four years but we rarely ran it with TA. TA, on the other hand, seems to run the traditional option - for my money, the harder of the two to execute - very well, especially considering he didn't run much of it in high school. I'd be curious what the story is on that.

Because you don't see it at other schools.
