Ad window at bottom of screen

This ad issue is getting out of hand. It's bad for a site to have an ad function in a way that takes away from the functions of the site.
The ad is completely in the way and annoying when using the mobile version of the site.
Just this morning I was searching for a thread and the ad at the bottom of the screen was covering the buttons to move from page to page.
Please....figure out something else for paid advertising on the site.

I think we should start a collection based on words/phrases/comments used in posts and have a penalty assigned to them. We could then use the funds to pay for the removal of ads. My first suggestions:
- Bo Pelini - 10pts
- MSM - 3pts
- 500 mile radius - 1pt
- "Pass more" - 2 pts
- "Run more" - 2pts

It's starting to piss me off that we haven't gotten a response yet.
Maybe the goal is to bring costs of the site down by driving people away.
I would donate if I knew it would make the ads go away - OR AT LEAST CHANGED FROM THE MOST ANNOYING TYPE OF AD I'VE EVER SEEN - but there has been no answer.
If you're keeping it up for a month to see how much $ it generates at least give us a possible end date to look forward to and/or respond to the ideas we've posted. This ad would be a good way to start a fundraising campaign. You could do it twice a year and say "the ad will stay up until we raise $300 from donations" or whatever amount. Then take it down.

Our bad. I thought Blackshirt had posted in here already, but I see it was only in the Mod forum. I'll summarize:
- The ads are pay-per-impression. The longer they're on, the more it helps the site.
- "X"-ing out the ads disables it for 24 hours.
- Will make a decision on its worth after a couple months of tracking.
- A "pay-to-remove-ads" system has some appeal. We'll have to look into this. If anyone is aware of an existing, easy IPB implementation please forward the information to me. A minimum of what I think we'd need is an automatic pay-to-change-group-membership plugin. We could also try implementing it manually, but it wouldn't be immediate.
My thoughts again: I wish it weren't so annoying, but we don't have control over how it's implemented. At best we could maybe redesign the site around it, but honestly I don't think there's an easy way to "mesh" with this garish slide-over.
In an ideal world, this and every other site on the internet is free with zero ads. Or we're capable of regularly drumming up member donations. We're not there, unfortunately. The site has operated at loss for some time. It's not fair to ask the members to come up with the effort or ideas to fix this, and I'm sorry this has been unleashed on you. Please do find your favorite ad block extension to do away with them (Ghostery is an excellent extension in general and it nukes them. I had to disable it just to see it work. Incidentally, the Brave web browser blocks them natively.)

I'm not understanding why you have to go with this ad company if this is the only option they have. There are plenty of other sites that have ads that don't pop up and show me giant penises.
Sorry but the X doesn't work. I've tried it and popped up again on the next page and the one after that. It seems entirely random.

The options for us look to me like this:
- Get these guys to serve something less annoying.
- Pay-to-remove ads.
- Some other alternative.
I hope we can find one of these and make it palatable. We're tossing a few ideas around, but ofc no promises. I can't claim to have the technical ability to pull off anything else, but perhaps some other folks on the team do. In any case, it seems like it'd be worth a try.
