What if I told you there's about to be a coach on the market who...

- Is from the upper Midwest

- Played his college football in the Big Ten

- Has 18 combined years of coaching in the Big Ten

- Has 7 years of Head Coaching experience in the Big Ten

- Went 24-5 against Big Ten West opponents (0.8275)

- Went 12-2 against rivals

- Is a proven mentor of junior coaches; three of his coordinators are now FBS P5 Head Coaches

- Is a master developer of undiscovered talent; coached 5x All Americans

- Was a Big Ten Coach of the Year

- Won the Big Ten three years in a row (3x Rose Bowl trips)

- Is undefeated against Northern Illinois (2-0, beating them by a combined score of 101-21)

- Is responsible for more than 20 Wisconsin defeats

Just imagine....

You wake up one morning

NEBRASKA HIRES BERT BIELEMA

JhUtn4w.jpg

* Photo not to scale, actual Bert size will vary

PROS:

- Is not a "genuinely nice guy"

- Proven track record as decent head coach, would excel in the Big Ten West

- Understands how to run a Nebraska style system

- Knows how to beat Wisconsin and Iowa

- Would stimulate local Lincoln economy through increased food sales

- Would be genuinely entertaining

- Would royally piss off Wisconsin, Iowa, and probably Minnesota thus increasing our quadrangle of hate

- Has Hot-ish wife

- Was Paul Chryst's boss for a while so you can continue your "haaaaar, Wisconsin owes everything to Nebraska" jeering

- Has much more extensive coaching experience than Frost

- Will probably be more humble now after his failure at Arkansas

CONS:

- Is Bret Bielema

- Would cost you several million dollars to remodel facilities to accommodate his wide girth (buy triple load chairs, extend doorways, larger bathroom stalls, etc).

 - Weak against the conference's elite; 6-10 vs. UM, OSU, PSU

- Is terrible in bowls

-  Not so great against ranked teams (10-13)

- Will leave you after seven years right before bowl game to take job at Kentucky where he says he can compete for a National Championship

- Has an Iowa Hawkeyes tattoo

I think 5 years ago sure...I think now the shine is gone.  I also think he is going to be one of those coaches that "retires" very soon

Bret won big because of who his offensive coordinator was. You know, the guy that is now the head coach at Wisconsin. Paul was the guy calling plays when Bret was the head coach. Sometimes head coaches get all of the credit when it is actually the OC calling the plays that is making the difference.

One of the reasons why I am a huge Coach Frost fan is he calls plays.

I don't understand how you guys can be so close minded and so ignorant of history.

Do you not remember Kansas in 2002? They had to make a move and were faced with an eerily similar decision to what you all now face; hire tried and true Mark Mangino or the sexy up-and comer Urban Meyer? They made the right call and only five years later Mangino was leading a 12-1 Kansas to its first Orange Bowl victory  and Division Championship in over 2000 years...... and where is that Meyer guy today?

Embrace your inner Kansas. Have the courage to call up your Mangino.
