While people may not want to eat their fries after the incident it should have no bearing on those that are willing to stick it out and have kept their noses clean.

College football is a year-round effort of blood, sweat, and tears. To take that all away at this point is just cruel. The players have earned the right to finish.

Because the staff knew, and they are about to get canned likely in the next few days and the entire athletic department (and probably the university as a whole) is going to be reeling from this for awhile. I'm sure as an institution the last thing the people that oversee penn state are thinking about at this point is 3 games for the football players.

Yeah playing the games is probably what the football team wants, but they are going to be dealing with a lot of things they probably don't deserve if they do. including hundreds of reporters asking them about child sexual abuse that was going on and their relation to it, as well as fan disgust, ect... Post game press conferences about raping kids doesn't seem fair to them either.

It's like every 'scandal' we've had in the past 50 years all happening at once, x 100. I feel sorry for them. No matter what, the fans don't deserve this.

And while some of them may have been defined as "criminal", none of them carry such a negative connotation and response as child molestation.

I understand what you are saying but this situation is not that simple. The actions of Sandusky, while appalling and stomach turning, are no longer the real issue for Penn State football. The head coach, an assistant, the AD, and other(s) in the department knew about this and basically did nothing. The assistant who witnessed it and reported it to JoePa is still in the program. JoePa's story is disgusting-he told the AD and then forgot about it? WTF? I'm sorry but if you witness something like that and/or are made aware of it being committed by a direct employee, there is no way NO WAY you don't follow up and continue to give the perpetrator access. JoePa or the assistant not following up on this willful covering up and that is totally unacceptable. This scandal is so intertwined with what Penn State football is that I think it highly probable that they might cancel games and possibly season(s) going forward. And no it is not fair to the players, the fans, the PSU people who had no knowledge of this. Unfortunately innocent people will get caught up in the solution. It's a terrible situation and I feel horrible for those student athletes that will be impacted. I know, very well, a high school senior from my area that had signed a letter of intent to go to PSU nest year. No way he goes now but it is 100x worse for players that are already there. I'm not saying they should cancel the game this Saturday but it would not surprise me in the least. A self administered death penalty may be all that this program can do at this point.

 
How many kids continued to get sodomized after the conscious decision by the staff to protect the Penn State "brand"? (What I'd also like to know is how you could possibly walk away from witnessing an adult sodomizing a child without giving him a bat to the temple first?)

How many of you would report that to your boss and then do nothing more? We're wayyyyyyyyyyy beyond NCAA violations here. How many things could possibly be worse than that? Those sick SOB's protected a pedophile rather than have a black mark on their program. The guy still had a locker and office on campus forgodsakes! If there's ever a reason to give a program the death penalty, this is it. Nuke their program and prosecute all those involved to the fullest extent of the law. Draw the friggen line. If not here, where?

Child molestation is one of the worst, if not the worst thing a person can do. But, witnessing it, not stopping it, and going about your business like nothing is wrong, is even worse in my opinion. That is what appears to have happened as pertains to JoePa and the assistant coach. What kind of human being simply reports that kind of thing up the chain? I've got no words for it.

 
I don't follow things nearly as closely as some/a lot of you do. From what little I've heard, JoePa learned of an indiscretion back in like 2002 and turned it into the powers that be. He's not being sought after criminally in any way. I don't believe any of his current staff is either. If this is correct, what kind of message would it really send by cancelling the game? Why punish the innocent? Those directly involved have stepped down and are not directly involved any longer. I see no reason to cancel the game.

I'm not ready to throw Paterno under the bus on this. I don't know the guy, but I have a hard time thinking he's the type of person who could know about something as sick as what Sandusky did, not go public with it, and actually be able to live with himself. I'd like to think very, very few people are that type of person.

If the reports are true, Paterno did know. He told his boss about it but never told the police. That's what a lot of people are so upset about.

Then who is really at fault here? Paterno, or his boss? Paterno himself said that the facts presented to the grand jury were not of the same detail that were told to him by the grad assistant. I really think blame is being placed on the wrong guy.

It wasn't little and couldn't be described as an indiscretion. I don't think this should cancel the game but to play down JoePa's involvment is truly burrying your head in the sand. He knew what was going on and did nothing to stop it. Authorities should have been involved. How many other victims were created because no one stepped in to truly put a stop to it?

 
I thought I read where Sandusky was forced to resign 1999 because he was spending too much time with his youth program.

Regardless of what happens to JoePa in the next few days. There will be a game played on Saturday. The university owes it to those football seniors that worked there asses for 4-5 years to let them run out of tunnel and onto Beaver Stadium on Saturday.

WHY would they cancel the game? No players or current coaches are indicted are they? And if they were they would be suspended, and the game would go on anyway. The suggestion that they need to cancel the game sounds to me like the OP might be hoping they do because he don't believe we can win on the field. Why else would anyone suggest they cancel a football game for something totally unrelated to the current program?
