Articles system is mucked up

What the hell....?

I downloaded the file; line 419 is:

foreach( $matches[1] as $index => $categoryId )

I have no idea what eval()'d code on line 1789 refers to; that file doesn't even HAVE 1700 lines, much less 1789.

Zoogies, did you notice this in the error message:

Call to undefined method skin_global_12::user_popup() in /home/huskerbo/public_html/admin/applications_addon/ips/ccs/sources/pages.php(419) : eval()'d code on line 1789

No idea why the path is incorrect (so far as I know). And no idea what's happening. Let me take a look at the Articles system in Control Panel and see if anything jumps out.

The lines discrepancy is probably because that file is included within another larger one, something like that.

Another thing, do you know what .css file this is? http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&folder=assets&page=index.css I can't find it from within the Template Editor, but obviously we've both made changes to it before...

Not sure why the directory is shown like that. If it were wrong though, you might expect the error message to be different. It's possible that that is really the directory name. It is above the /public_html/ directory, which is the one we FTP into, so we wouldn't really be able to tell, I don't think.

I was looking around at the Articles stuff in the control panel earlier, but it seems to be more under-the-hood, skin related.

Completely unrelated to the issue at hand, but this was pretty funny. In that pages.php file, there's a variable name...you can see it all around line 419 if that's where you were looking.

Code:
$this->registry->ccsFunctions->pageData['articles'] = $aksdhkjashdkhsdjkhakjsdhkh;

			foreach( $matches[1] as $index => $categoryId )
			{
Someone has quite the memory to work with code that references a variable 'aksdhkjashdkhsdjkhakjsdhkh' 24 times...

Hah, and this was asked about on the IPS Community Forums, and the inquiry was marked "Working as Intended" :-P

The index.css is kind of hard to find. To get to it:

1. In Control Panel, go to Other Apps - Content - Pages.

2. Once that loads, under Your Folders & Pages, find the assets folder and click the arrow to expand it.

3. Under that you will see the CSS file.

No kidding! I saw that referenced and thought, "Is that a typo?" But, like you noted, it's found numerous times. If it's an acronym, I have to think the coder could have come up with something more compact.

Oh hey, it's fixed now.

Thanks for pointing me to the right section of the cPanel AR. It was the "Article Template" under "Other Apps-> IPS Content".

Really funny story, it's just like last time something like this happened. After finding the file that was causing the problem, I deleted all the code to see if that would cause the errors to go away. It did. I pasted the exact same code back in. And now it works.

You have GOT to be kidding me! This new iteration of the Board is decidedly...odd.

Well, I'm glad you got it fixed. I took a look at the template, but not the actual code, and NEVER would have thought of that solution. Good job!

I wouldn't have either...I was putting back little pieces of the code at a time. If I knew I could just put the whole thing back without changing anything, and it would magically work...man!

So, the reason I was looking at this today, I think we need to clean up some of the stickies in Husker Football. We're at 8 now, think we can try to get it down to 2 or 3? Awful lot of clutter at the top of the forum. It happens, so maybe some housekeeping is in order. I was thinking we can promote some of these to the "Articles" section. - so they'll still be there, as a resource - just not as a sticky.

*History Lesson (Husker Info)

*Nebraska Tradition (Husker Info)

*Posting Newspaper and Publication Articles (Board Info)

*Iowa Video, Pics, Stories, Quotes.. (2011 Season) - and then link to this page from the Previous Game Block in the sidebar, to maintain its visibility
Other things we could trim:

* Capital One Bowl Information/Prediction Contest into the same thread; keep "Prediction Contest" as a tag, along with 'Win Free Husker Gear.' Pimp this in the Index Headlines later, if need be.

* Ultimate iPhone Apps - aww, we are obligated to keep this, aren't we?
That should leave us with the following stickies remaining:

* Pin the Tail on the Donkey

* Capital One

* iPhone
What do you guys think?

Agree, with one exception. We contracted to keep the iPhone App thread up until after the first week of the season. Just never got around to unpinning it. So, we can do that.

So, everyone - thoughts?

IMO the fewer things stickied on Husker Football the better.

Which brings up a question - what do you guys think about those two articles I posted and stickied? Should that be moved to Other Sports? I like those articles because they discuss important things pertaining to the creation of the Big 12, but I don't like the fact that it takes up screen real estate. Would that sticky be OK in Other Sports, or should we just unsticky it and let it fall, or what?

I like those a lot, knapp, and think the more of those we have, the better. To keep them as stickies, Other Sports would be a good landing spot, where there aren't as many stickies. More generally I think we can make more use of the "Pages" feature (which needs a re-name...'Articles'? 'Content'? I dunno) so as to have kind of a permanent content area for useful threads like that. Another thing I think we can put there, a collection of all the "____game video, pics, stories, etc..." which also has links to the Prediction threads and Gameday discussion threads, so people can easily go back and view the history of HB discussion for all the games over the years, as well as get access to the vids/stats/etc.

If we do this though, we will have to promote that section of the website a bit - it's obvious nobody has used it so far. It was/is a visual train wreck, and none of the members noticed!

By the way, I was thinking you should probably edit the History Lesson thread by trimming the quoted articles as you see fit. We do have that 'Newspaper Article Posting Guideline' thread stickied next to it ;)

I would trim them, but the worry I have is that those articles will go away. Once they're gone there's no getting them back. The links I used were the original article links, but if you click them you find that the actual articles are gone. The copy I used for both comes from other forums.
