At what point do we stop bringing up Bo to defend Riley?

You made up your mind long ago and now you're here to take a leak in everyone's Cheerios. It's not a mystery that this would go unappreciated by most. Perhaps some day Riley will prove to be a disaster, or lose it and cuss out the fans. That'll be Christmastime for you, and you'll have plenty of choir to preach to then. Jumping the gun a little eagerly at the moment.
At some point the Moderators have to step in. When a person won't self-police, you have to do it for them.

The suggestion is always to "use the ignore function." But you can't, because every thread is bogged down with these serial bitchers. Where can I go to talk about football without having to deal with this crap?

That's 47 posts, each of which has a reply or two, dominated by people who are only here to b!^@h. There's no football discussion, it's just bitching.

There are 78 posts in the 'Athlon: Open letter to the concerned Nebraska fan' thread. This group has 18 of them.

28 posts in the 'I don't think Sam liked the Play Call' thread. These guys have nine of them.

115 posts in the 'Which team was more talented?' thread. These guys have 11 of them.

That's not counting all of the replies specifically to these guys, almost all of which are griping at them for doing nothing more than pissing and moaning.

Those are the top threads in this forum as I type this. Each of them is filled with 25%-50% of these guys just bitching about Riley.

And that doesn't count the posts that have been moved or deleted due to personal attacks.

I can't ignore their posts, because everyone quotes them and replies, which further detracts from the conversation.

Where am I supposed to go to just talk football?
So now posting facts is "bitching?"

Got it.

You're welcome for all of the hits to the message board.

Anyhow, cherry picking quotes to misrepresent someone's opinion is pretty sad.

Boy, I do NOT want to suggest that Riley doubters should be unwelcome to post on Huskerboard.

I'm not intimidated or overwhelmed by their contributions to these threads.

But I do want to call them out on their horsesh#t.

Because they are treated as pariahs here, there are probably more Riley detractors who decline to post.

Not a big fan of Groupthink myself. I don't think the Riley doubters are speaking with one voice either.

It's up to us how to respond. Admin censorship is the most cowardly way.

Wasn't that long ago Pelini detractors were shown the door. And they were generally more lucid than this crew.

Yes -- absolutely right.

Depending on how things go, the Riley doubters will have their day in the sun (or won't). You want to make it your act to bag on the guy in his first year here, you're going to get plenty of blowback.

There's sometimes a difference between what you think will happen and what you hope to happen.
Yes. But you don't hope you're wrong: "I don't 'hope I'm wrong'".

The Woodshed is not private; it's opt in, not confidential. They're your words, so own them.

I'll own my whole post, not your cherry picked selective quoting:

I feel the same as walksalone. I don't even know what you mean by "give him a chance". Do I have the option of vetoing the hire and not giving him a chance?

But I do have to be honest. I don't "hope I'm wrong". I just don't really care any more. I don't have any hope that he will do any good. I think he, and his staff even moreso, are in way over their heads. I guess if he does prove me wrong I'll be pleasantly surprised and I'll admit I was wrong and climb aboard the Husker train again. I like seeing an underdog come out on top once in awhile and Riley doing it would make for an awesome story. But, I don't think I can really get back to my old 1969-2003 level of Husker fandom until they get someone competent running the program.

Going out and hiring the first nice guy who will take the job just doesn't work. Anwhere! Especially at Nebraska. It's a unique place in the college football world. Devaney and Osborne laid out a perfect blueprint for making Husker football successful. Pederson took a sh#t on it, Pederhorst is wiping his a$$ with it and Perlman is dead set on flushing it. If somebody can recover it from the waste treatment plant, I'll definitely be back on board.
If you don't care, and you don't hope, and you call Riley "Callahan 2.0" three games into his career, and you think the UNL administration actively wants Nebraska football to fail, and everyone who believes otherwise is a gullible idiot....Nebraska football fan might not be the right fit for you.

Also of note: your recall and analysis of Nebraska football has been uniformly awful this week.

Tell you what: if you can find a single informed opinion that believes Nebraska merely went out and hired the first nice guy it could find, I will eat my hat.

A hat made of pie.

It isn't "censorship" to ask people to stop shouting over every conversation. Some would call that a pretty reasonable request.

"Groupthink" is a fun buzzword. Right up there with "butthurt."

If seeing a guy like Mike Riley fail gives you your "day in the sun", then I question you're entire being.

Bo Pelini is the kind of guy you can root against, he gave people plenty of reasons, and even then I never rooted for him to fail. If he failed, it meant Nebraska failed. I had hope for Pelini even in that final year when I had grown pretty tired of it all.

Combined with the fact that this is season one for this staff, three games in, and the fact that they seem like some of the most likable personalities we've has around here in awhile, I don't get how anyone could be unwilling to let this play out a bit.

Mmmmm........pie.........

What kind of pie?

Personally I'm a big fan of almost all pies it turns out. Once somebody else lists another pie I remember that I like that one too!

Yeah, criticizing Mike Riley isn't the same as defending Bo Pelini. Except when that's exactly what it is TO ME.
I fixed it for you.

People could not have wanted to keep Bo and then have been underwhelmed by the Mike Riley hire?...right?...

What choice do we have? I never understood this line of thought. We have to "let it play out".

I'm just giving my prediction of how I think it will play out.

Oh absolutely. Some people could feel that way. And I understand them completely.

But there are other people who use certain phraseology over and over and over. Enough to make you wonder.

I mean, statistically there are some people butthurt about the Pelini firing, right? They do exist? Some of them perhaps on this board?

The irony of it all is that GBRedneck must have either recently lost a job, or come off the farm to regain internet access. If you go through his profile, based off the reputation, you'll notice about a year and a half gap in his activity. Ironically, some of his last post were calling for Bo's head (so I can't ding him for that). The last week has been brutal trying to find any halfway decent topics, that have not been turned into a complete circus. Thankfully there is a lockerroom full of huskers out on the internet that is able to keep the conversation going. I understand many people's frustration, but good god the "Riley was gonna suck, told you so" chest bumping is getting old quick.

Great post.

It actually does help somewhat to use the "ignore" function in the preferences. You still see when their posts are quoted, but at least you can decide how much of the stupid you want to subject yourself to.

For years, there were a couple people who were just as vocally opposed to Pelini, and I couldn't stand them either. They always seemed to have something personal against Pelini, just as the new crop seems to have something personal against either Riley or Nebraska.
