The Boilermakers were led by Freshman QB Danny Etling after he took over the job from Rob Henry. He fared well throwing for 1,690 yards and 10 TDs hooking up mainly with other freshman DeAngelo Yancey. The offensive line was a major concern last year not creating too many holes for Akeem Hunt who is also a big threat out of the backfield. They lose a big playmaker in the secondary with Allen graduating who intercepted quarterbacks 6 times.
Overall don't look for a vast improvement this season, but they should win against at least 1 FBS opponent after failing to do that last year.
Illinois
2013 Record: 4-8 (1-7)
Key Losses: QB Nathan Scheelhaase, WR Steve Hull, LB Jonathan Brown
Top offensive player: RB Josh Ferguson (Jr)
Top defensive player: DB Earnest Thomas III (Sr)
-Breakout Player- QB Wes Lunt (Jr)
Toughest three game stretch:

It's going to be a different scene for the Illini initially with #2 not under center after a good four year starting career. They are banking on QB Wes Lunt to take over after sitting out last season because of transferring from Oklahoma State. Look for a load of Ferguson this season especially early on in the season, but we know Bill Cubit will want to sling that rock after things settle. Brown is a huge loss from a defensive that really struggled to stop much of anything. Linebacker Mason Monheim should compliment well again for his absence.
I see them getting a few easy out of conference wins, but staying at 1 inside the conference.
Northwestern
2013 Record: 5-7 (1-7)
Key Losses: ATH Kain Colter, RB Mike Trumpy, K Jeff Budzien, DE Tyler Scott
Top Offensive Player: RB Venric Mark (Sr)
Top Defensive Player: S Ibraheim Campbell (Sr)
-Breakout Player- WR Tony Jones (Sr)
Toughest three game stretch:

Getting Venric Mark was the biggest win for the Wildcats, but getting the talk of football to be ahead of the Union talk is next up in line for coach Fitzgerald. Last year definitely crumbled after losing a close matchup against Ohio St which the Cats could only get one win inside the Big10. Siemian definitely will have enough talent around him with a great backfield and receiving core. The defense will have to greatly improve if it wants to keep pace and improve to where the team feels they should be.
Northwestern will catch some teams by surprise along with failing to beat teams they should. I see them just making a bowl game with 6 wins at this point.
Minnesota
2013 Record: 8-5 (4-4)
Key Losses: QB Philip Nelson, DT Ra'Shede Hageman, LB Aaron Hill
Top Offensive Player: RB David Cobb (Sr)
Top Defensive Player: CB Erik Murray (Jr)
-Breakout Player- WR Drew Wolitarsky (Soph)
Toughest three game stretch:

The Gophers surprised a lot of people last season with a tough running attack and a solid defense. Hageman will be missed on the defensive line, but they get almost all key players returning on both sides of the ball. Mitch Leidner assumed most the snaps last year but will need to pass the ball in key moments as they failed to last season.
Minnesota might keep some of that hype early on, but will lose that momentum with a tough conference schedule especially late in the season.
Iowa
2013 Record: 8-5 (5-3)
Key Losses: TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, OT Brett Van Sloten, LB James Morris, LB Anthony Hitchens, LB Christian Kirksey
Top Offensive Player: OT Brandon Scherff (Sr)
Top Defensive Player: DL Carl Davis (Sr)
-Breakout Player- CB Desmond King (Soph)
Toughest three game stretch:

If there is a major positive it will be the schedule as Iowa's three toughest games are at home this season. They also drew well to get Indiana and Maryland from the East. With a great offensive line returning look for the Hawks to pound the ball and hit their talented tight ends once again. The defensive loses all three linebackers who were a vital part of that defense which only allowed 18.9 ppg.
If the Hawks can find some guys who can find the ball on defense and a breakout wide receiver there is no telling how far this team can go. It will come down to the end of the year when they host Wisconsin and Nebraska.
Nebraska
2013 Record: 9-4 (5-3)
Key Losses: QB Taylor Martinez, WR Quincy Enunwa, OL Cole Pensick, CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB Ciante Evans, K Pat Smith
Top Offensive Player: RB Ameer Abdullah (Sr)
Top Defensive Player: DE Randy Gregory (Jr)
-Breakout Player- DB Charles Jackson (Jr)
Toughest three game stretch:

@Iowa
QB Tommy Armstrong unexpectedly had to fill in for the injured Martinez most of the season and struggled on several occasions. We saw flashes of his ability and I think he builds on that and has a strong season with a loaded backfield to take some pressure off of him. The offensive line will be real inexperienced and will have to find their groove early on before we head to Michigan State. Are the Blackshirts back? That will be the main question this year as they were littered with young talent in 13'.
Is this the season we can break through and finish the regular season with 10 wins and knock off the East champion? I don't see why not, but it will be a tall task for Bo Pelini as the Huskers face their toughest three in conference opponents on the road.
Wisconsin
2013 Record: 9-4 (6-2)
Key Losses: WR Jared Abbrederis, RB James White, TE Jacob Pedersen, OG Ryan Groy, LB Chris Borland
Top Offensive Player: RB Melvin Gordon (Jr)

-Breakout Player- RB Corey Clement (Soph)
Toughest three game stretch:

Coach Anderson made a solid entrance into the Big10 last season and looks to stay the course this year. The Badgers lose their only two factors they had in the receiving department but the backfield will be filled with talent once again. They lose a tackling machine but this unit impressed many last year. Wisconsin will have a favorable conference schedule but will be tested game one on a neutral site against LSU.
November 15th at Camp Randall will be the biggest factor in deciding the West champion.
