Banning

Eric the Red

Team HuskerBoard
For the first time since this board started I'm very close to immidiate bans. This obviously contradics most of what I have ever said, but i'm not afraid to progress or regress, depending on how you look at this, based on how other people are perceiving this. By other I mean other visiting fans, potential recruits, and your average, quality Husker fans. While we never want to have a bunch of Kool Aid drinkers I really starting to get concerned that our presence in Husker Nation is hurting the Univ of Nebraska.

Some options to consider: 1) Start Banning more liberally 2) Create "private" forum for our "resepcted" members....allowed to join by invitation only.

I'm beginning to favor the two-ban approach. It coincides with the three strikes we already have in place.

First strike - your warning level goes up and you get a PM telling you why, and how to avoid it in the future.

Second strike - you get another warning, and another PM. Based on severity of second strike (and length of time, and similarity) you may just get another warning or you may get time away from HuskerBoard. The length of that time depends on what you did.

Third strike - you get some time away from HuskerBoard. The length of time depends on the severity of what you've done, and possibly on how long you've been a member, etc. Lots goes into this.

At any given time, though, I'll permaban someone for their first offense, depending what it is. Guys like HuskerJock may have four and five warnings and still be members of the community. We have several members like that. Longevity should earn more lenience. skersfan is getting pretty riled up lately, but we're not banning that guy - that kind of thing.

I agree. I don't think a private forum would be helpful and would encourage a more cliquish atmosphere than we need. I think time off in most cases is more than sufficient - 'instigators' or problem users are the ones who will off and leave in a huff and not bother to return. For the regs that have earned it, hopefully they will come back.

I think we could use a tighter leash with the threads during the week, but have to be careful that this doesn't start seeming like we're shutting down certain areas of discussion whenever they appear.

There are times when I think we've seen enough at the first incident to warrant a full-on ban. To date, I don't think we've held back in those instances. And as knapp mentioned, there are longtime regs that need nothing more than time off every now and then.

yes or no on short term, first offense banning/??????

Or how about we take a few days to propse examples in this thread and make decisions to give each other a baseline for when to pull the trigger.

There is a post under that kid from Lincoln, nE who just decommitted with someone saying "He can go f#*k himself"

There is another post in the announcers thread in the Main forum citing something like.... "Cuntingham" instead of Cunningham. As in pu&&y........now I like pu&&y as much as the next guy, but it's not the place. There are plenty of other sites to d!(k around like this.

I'm going to ban each of them for 7 days because it's simply f'ing stupid and this sh#t has to stop.

As i said, I know this is different from what I have said, but I'm sick and tired of the smart a$$ remarks (outside of this forum :) )

I like it Eric, especially the first one... just awful.

In general I would say no to first offense banning except in truly egregious circumstances (which we already ban on the first offense for, right?) Then you'll have guys who either say "OK, my bad" and come back and do better, or you'll have the guys who'll say "F#K you guys, I'm outta here, I'm too cool to be disciplined." Sort of a self-selecting process, and we would be able to say 'they had a chance, if they wanted to take it.'

I just read through some of this stuff and it almost seems like it's a contest to see who has the best one-liner ..... the lack of football discussion is almost absent and thus not very fun to even be on here.

If this is the way it has been for a while I'm really sorry for not being around more to help. I take responsibility on this.

Please let me know what I can do.

Get Sam to hang around more? :)

Post threads when he puts out articles. Tell him we'd be honored!

Yeah it's been bad Eric and it's not from a lack of trying on our part. We just aren't seeing everything because not everyone uses the report function. It's gotten really bad since the OSU loss.

We've also been trying to strike that balance between discussion and censorship, but we probably let it slide a little too far to the "allow more discussion" side.

A crackdown every once in a while is good. Keeps people on their toes and cleans out the gutters, so to speak.
