In an interview with CNN following news of the releases, Trump's running mate said, "I think it's great news, at least what little we know, we certainly want these Americans to come back home, it was ridiculous that they were in prison to begin with."

He continued, "But we have to ask ourselves—why are they coming home? I think it's because bad guys all over the world recognize Donald Trump's about to be back in office, so they're cleaning house. That's a good thing and I think it's a testament to Donald Trump's strength."

So, let me get this straight. The administration has put major restrictions on Russia that is having major impacts on their economy.  They have continued to supply Ukraine with weapons so they can hold Russia back and, in doing so, is doing major damage to their military.

The other side praises Putin and demands we stop supplying Ukraine and just let Russia have the territory they want.

And...this numb skull thinks Trump is viewed by Putin as more detrimental to him.

What a friggen idiot and everyone who believes this crap.

The exchange of prisoners I'm not going on pretend to know much about, but every presidency has done it. I'm sure there's some conditions on it as well that we aren't aware of.

I mean I understand why we do it and am sort of glad we do try to bring them home. But, as an example, there’s the Pittsburgh area teacher, Fogel, imprisoned in Russia back in 2021. Dumb ahole took marijuana into Russia. WTF did he think might possibly happen  :facepalm:  Like Griner traveling with hash oil. And now it’s our government’s job to secure their release because they were idiots?

PSA- other countries have different laws and different methods of dispensing justice. Might be wise to think about these things and act accordingly.

My school does two trips each year, spring break one and summer one, almost always at least one of them is out of the country.  This summer was Germany, Poland and Romania.  The "this is not America" speech is given over and over.  Even things like, just because the drinking age over there is lower, doesn't mean you can drink there because you are on a school trip!!!

I get to go for free WITH a stipend. 

Stupid covid cancelled our trip to Iceland!!!!

Many years ago I smuggled back some Cuban cigars as I was returning to the US from Venezuela. That made me nervous enough. I can’t imagine taking actual illegal drugs into someplace like Russia. I would just expect to be shipped off forever to a gulag in Siberia.

Did you notice a difference in those cigars?  Sweeter?  Stronger?

We have never really gone anywhere "bad".  Well, we did the Galapagos Islands and trust me, you are not taking anything out of that place!

I think we are doing Japan this upcoming year but I am not going on that one.

I have no idea if the cigars were better or worse. Not really a cigar guy. Just seemed like the thing to do….because I could.

Ha. And I really fooled em too. Stuffed a bunch inside my shoes that were packed in my bag. Bet nobody ever thought to hide them there  :lol:

Weird thing is, it was much harder getting out of Venezuela than it was coming into Miami. US customs didn’t check our bags at all. Coulda brought in a kilo of yayo. But we were detained leaving Venezuela. Kept telling us our papers were not in order. Finally put a $20 bill in our passports….then they let us board the plane.
