Big Ten Media

I'm also old enough to remember when you paid for one service and got everything. Then, people complained about how expensive that was and wanted to just buy certain channels to be cheaper.

Now we are at the point of having to subscribe to multiple services to get what we want and it’s then back up to what we were paying before….or more.

The average DirecTV bill is $124/month

YoutubeTV - $65

HBO Max - $10

Netflix - $10

Disney+ Bundle (Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+) - $8

AppleTV+ - $5

That's a package that even has redundancies and youtubetv is a pricier option than something like sling. Plus you get access to way, way, WAY more entertainment.

I would rather pay the exact same amount as cable, but be getting exactly what I want.  That is more the point, not necessarily the money.

I only need my football and my shows.

Huskers, Good Times, The A-Team, Fall Guy, Golden Girls and The Nanny.  Maybe some golf.   :)

The golden days of streaming were about 4 years ago. I think it started going downhill when Playstation TV was canned. That's when everyone start raising rates. Before COVID it seemed like everybody's price was going up every six months.

It was $35 when it first launched. Then it jumped to $40 when it added all the Turner Networks (TNT, TBS, CNN, CN, etc.), then to $50 when it added all the Discovery network channels.

Went up to $65 in 2020 after adding Viacom's lineup of BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, TV Land, and VH1

So a good deal more expensive but with more content and lightyears better accessibility than any cable offering that's ever existed. Still, there are plenty of cheaper options.

The Big Ten’s new media rights agreements are backloaded in part because CBS is limited on how many Big Ten games it can show in 2023, the final year of its SEC contract.

In 2023-24, the league’s schools will receive the same conference distribution as they did in 2022-23 (nearly $60 million per school). The league’s payouts will increase slightly in Year 2 (2024-25) before drastically increasing the final five years of the deal from 2025-30, growing to about $100 million per school, including revenue from the College Football Playoff, bowl games and the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

The contract includes an escalator clause, meaning the deal could approach nearly $10 billion if the Big Ten’s membership increases, network sources said. Even after adding USC and UCLA, the Big Ten “is not done” expanding, sources told Action Network.
So...Notre Dame....you can be happy with your "hopeful" $75,000,000 and stay independent, or you can come over and get $100,000,000.
