Bowl Projections Thread

Perception is everything, but thankfully, bowl selections have perceptions related to more than just who is the best team.

A big reason championship game losers get skipped over is because the bowls want to make money, which they do by getting people to attend. A team that just had fans travel/spend money on a championship game, combined with a team who's fans are disappointed following a loss, makes for a tougher argument than a team just beneath them that finished the regular season on a win and would be incredibly excited for the better opportunity.

You really think 10-3 Wisconsin fans following a CCG loss would fill the Orange Bowl the way 10-2 Nebraska fans would? Not a chance.
No but the committee sets the new years six bowls now. So there's that.

From the selection committee FAQ site

The committee will assign teams to the non-playoff bowls to create the most compelling matchups, while considering other factors such as geographic proximity, avoiding rematches of regular-season games and avoiding rematches of recent years’ bowl games.
With perception being the way that it is. NU isn't going to a new years six bowl. The highest bowl NU gets to is Outback and that's IF the committee puts 3 into the new years six with OSU going to the playoff.

I have a hard time seeing that happen though because there are other conference schools that have 2 losses that should get in over a 3 loss Wisconsin or Penn State.

Guys on 247 podcast said it was almost assuredly the Outback unless things get weird. If ya'all decide to come to Tampa, hit me up. I'll definitely be going!

Nightmare BIG 10 scenario.

Ohio State over Michigan

Michigan State over Penn State

Iowa over Nebraska

Minnesota over Wisconsin

That puts OSU at 11-1 and in the CCG

Michigan 10-2

Penn State 9-3

Nebraska 9-3

Wisconsin 9-3

Wisconsin over Ohio State in CCG

Puts Ohio State at 11-2, Wisconsin at 10-3

Does the Big10 get left out?

1. Alabama

2. Clemson

3. Colorado or Washington

4. Oklahoma? Wisconsin?

Who goes?

God, come on. Don't give us the Holiday Bowl again.

Depending on how the CCG goes (assuming Wisconsin makes it and we don't), we might benefit from the possibility of them losing. Historically, the loser of the championship game will pretty often get dropped a spot in the bowl pecking order.
Absolutely, but Wisconsin's perception has been very favorable all year. They have been treated like God's from the committee and other voters.
A lot of fans in here also think Wisconsin is amazing program/team this year. Yes, they are good, but NU had a very winnable game in Madison this year. It wouldn't have been a huge upset that some in here think it would have been.
Very true. Their best win is over an LSU team that is anemic, at best, on offense.

Wisconsin is not very good offensively. At all.

Wisconsin's best win is quite a bit better than our best win.

Wisconsin's worst loss is quite a bit better than our worst loss.

They're a damn good football team.

I'm not saying Wisconsin isn't a good team, but they aren't the unstoppable force that a lot of people on here make them out to be. The NU game against them was a 50-50 game. It wouldn't have been a huge upset that some want to say on here.

Who has made them an unstoppable force? I don't think anyone has?

The first is a true statement.

The second is a true statement.

The third is a non sequitur - though I do think they are a solid team, they are also a team that is quite vulnerable. I could see them getting smoked in the B10C, if they make it. If they get lucky and play CMU, they may be ok in the bowl, but if they play anyone with a good offense, it could get ugly. This was a down year for Wisconsin, despite their current ranking, which is based more on "quality losses" than quality wins (LSU is 6-4 and on the edge of the top 25).

CM said we did, so of course we did. Quit arguing.
