Bubba Starling

Baseball is rough. You get some good upfront money if you're good enough but you might get stuck in the minors forever. Not sure how he is doing, but maybe if it doesn't work he could be like Weinke or Weeden. I would still take him after a few years. Hell, after 3-4 years he'll be in the prime of his physical years and ready to go.
He had a pretty good year in Rookie League. Hit 10 HR in 200 ABs in 53 games. Only hit .275 but that's to be expected with his first year in pro ball. His OBP was prtty good too.
He was an All-Star in his league. Starling is still years away from KC, but so far everything is going according to plan.

Watched Bubba in person before. He can run. But I don't think he would of started because he can't pass very well.
When has ability to pass ever mattered at Nebraska? He could pass just fine. He had a cannon. And he could scramble really well. Was a smart kid. He would have been successful in Beck's offense.

He threw for 49% accuracy his senior year. Trust me he isn't a great passer.

I was at a good chunk of his games, for all 4 years - you don't judge a HS QB that can run for 400 yards a game based solely on his %. He only had 80ish attempts the entire year.

Agreed! The one game I saw him play on espnu, he threw 3 times completed 2 and both we're touchdowns. Also saw some other highlights of him and it seemed like their passing game was pretty primitive. Anytime he threw, it seemed like it was 50 yard bombs. All or nothing type of plays.

baseball is not easy to advance....there are many players each year coming into the sytstem from around the world.....i knew a kid from my home town in iowa, he was great, went to creighton, and was drafted high ....he played in the minors for a few years, finally made triple a, and then got hurt....now he is trying to come back again....bubba is just a kid,, maybe 20

Only ended up being a .244 hitter in the minors and a .204 hitter in very limited time in the majors.

What could have been....

He completed 60% of his passes as a junior.

When you're averaging 20+ yards per completion, you aren't throwing a lot of the short, quick passes that up your completion percentage.
I get what you’re saying. But his completion % was low for soph/senior year and also threw a lot of picks. He is a clone of HH. Built like a Greek god with a subpar arm that can run through you/over you. They also have similar builds. Bubba had a weird looking pass too.

Bubba actually had ++arm strength.   One of the reasons he was drafted so high in MLB along with his superior athletic ability.

I think he would have been just fine for what he would have been asked to do.  HH was being asked early in his college career to be a passing QB..

Also keep in mind Bubba spent all spring and summer playing HS/Travel baseball and all winter playing Basketball.  His QB skill set would have hopefully been much improved in a college program (even if it were NU)
