Apparently Eric used the word "gay" in a PM asking people not to use the term "butthurt." This is how they respond, via Status Updates on the front page of HuskerBoard:

So long as they aren't using it for personal attacks, we're fine with it. It's not the term - it's the context.

That 'gay' comment might have been ill-advised. As a derogatory term, it's a relic from another era.

Just by way of documentation, I moved the following post to the Junkyard after quoted several of @TheSker's posts and replied with this:

I'm getting the feeling this butthurt is going to keep on keepin on until you're proven wrong........again. Is that what all this is about? You were wrong about Eichorst not going to fire Pelini and ever since it's been nothing but negativity towards Riley. Get. Over. It.

I PMed him the following:

I moved your post for the obvious reason. I didn't think it required an explanation.

I don't know how the explanation was worded to the members who aren't around anymore but to me it has nothing to do with homosexuality. I don't even particularly mind it myself - I've used it before on this board. But I do have an issue when it is only used to belittle another poster. That's what let to the previous warnings and the blowup. Now it's basically taboo because it's a lightning rod and people will complain if some are able to use it while others were (in their minds) banned for using it.

I'm definitely not trying to throw Eric under the bus but most who are upset about it are focusing on the "gay" part of it when the blame really belong on why they were using this word.
